    Abstract: The invention relates to a process for preparing a catalyst support, in which zirconium dioxide powder is mixed with a binder, if desired a pore former, if desired an acid, water and, if desired, further additives to give a kneadable composition and the composition is homogenized, shaped to produce shaped bodies, dried and calcined, wherein the binder is a monomeric, oligomeric or polymeric organosilicon compound. Suitable binders are monomeric, oligomeric or polymeric silanes, alkoxysilanes, aryloxysilanes, acryloxysilanes, oximinosilanes, halosilanes, aminoxysilanes, aminosilanes, amidosilanes, silazanes or silicones. The invention also provides the catalyst support which has been prepared in this way, a catalyst comprising the support and its use as dehydrogenation catalyst.

    Abstract: Process for production of unsaturated nitriles from corresponding alkanes comprises: (1) catalytic dehydrogenation; (2) at least partial separation of other gaseous components from the alkane and alkene; and (3) catalytic ammoxidation of the alkene to form the corresponding unsaturated nitrile. Process for production of unsaturated nitriles from corresponding alkanes comprises: (A) feeding an alkane to a dehydrogenation zone with catalytic dehydrogenation of the alkane to the corresponding alkene to form a product gas stream comprising the alkene, unreacted alkane and optionally at least one further gaseous component comprising water vapor, hydrogen, carbon oxides, low boiling point hydrocarbons (lower than that of the alkane and alkene) and noble gas; (B) at least partial separation of the other gaseous components from gas stream (A) to yield a feed gas stream comprising alkane and alkene; (C) feeding the gas stream from (B), ammonia, an oxygen containing gas and optionally water vapor into an oxidation zone with catalytic ammoxidation of the alkene to form the corresponding unsaturated nitrile, byproducts, unreacted alkane and alkene and optionally at least one of water vapor, oxygen, carbon oxides, ammonia, nitrogen and noble gas; (D) optional separation of ammonia from gas stream (C) to yield an ammonia poor gas stream (D); (E) separation of the unsaturated nitrile and byproducts from (C) and/or (D) by absorption in an aqueous absorption agent to yield a gaseous stream containing unreacted alkane and alkene and optionally at least one of oxygen, carbon oxides, ammonia, nitrogen and noble gases and an aqueous stream comprising the nitrile and byproducts with recovery of the unsaturated nitrile from the aqueous stream; and (F) recycling of the gaseous stream from (E) to the dehydrogenation zone.

    Abstract: Production of partial oxidation products and/or partial ammoxidation products of an olefinic hydrocarbon comprises intermittent operation in a non-operational phase by at least partial non-operation of the dehydration stage whereby the oxidation- and/or ammoxidation zone is continued to be operated and the deficiency in olefinic hydrocarbon feedstock is compensated by another source. A process for the production of partial oxidation products and/or partial ammoxidation products of at least one olefinic hydrocarbon (I) comprises (A) partial dehydration and/or oxy-dehydration of a paraffinic hydrocarbon in a first reaction zone to form a product mixture comprising unreacted paraffinic hydrocarbon and olefinic hydrocarbon (I). (B) separation of the product mixture from (A) into paraffinic and olefinic components optionally in a separation zone and feeding of either the olefinic or paraffinic component to an oxidation and/or ammoxidation zone to form at least one partial oxidation and/or ammoxidation product that contains an olefinic hydrocarbon (I). (C) separation of the product mixture from (B) in a processing zone and recycle of at least a portion of unreacted paraffinic hydrocarbon to the reaction zone of step (A) and (D) from time to time in a non-operational phase at least partial non-operation of the first reaction zone whereby the oxidation- and/or ammoxidation zone (B) is continued to be operated and the deficiency in olefinic hydrocarbon feedstock is at least partially compensated by another source of olefinic hydrocarbon and optionally paraffinic hydrocarbon arising from sources other than reaction zone (A) is at least partially recycled to the oxidation and/or ammoxidation zone (B).
