Abstract: Catalysts suitable for hydrogenating organic compounds, essentially containi ng 65 to 80 % nickel calculated as nickel oxide, 10 to 25 % silicon calculated as silicon dioxide, 2 to 10 % zirconium calculate d as zirconium oxide, 0 to 10 % aluminium calculated as aluminium oxide, with the proviso that the sum of the silicon dioxide and al uminium oxide contents is at least 15 %, with the percen tages by weight in relation to the total mass of the catalyst, obtainable by the a ddition of an acid aqueous solution of nickel, ziconium and, if desired, aluminium salts to a basic aqueous solution or suspension of silico n compounds and, if desired, aluminium compounds, the pH of the mixture thus obtained being reduced to at least 6.5 and subsequently adjusted to 7 to 8 by the addition of a further basic so lution, isolation of the solid thus precipitated, drying, shaping and calcinating, i n addition a process for producing the catalysts and the ir use in the production of medicinal white oil, highly pure medicinal paraffins and low-b oiling-point non-aromatic hydrocarbon mixtures.

Abstract: Disclosed is a fuel composition containing a major quantity of gasoline havi ng a maximum sulfur content of 150 ppm by weight, and a minor quantity of at least one gasoline additive having a detergent effect or a valve seat wear- inhibiting effect. Said gasoline additive comprises at least one hydrophobic hydrocarbon radical having an average molecular weight of 85 to 20,000, and at least one polar group. The fuel composition further contains at least one lo w alkanol at a moiety of about 5 to 75 percent by volume.

Abstract: Fuel composition contains an Otto fuel and a small amount of an Otto fuel additive containing a hydrophobic hydrocarbon residue and a specified polar group. Fuel composition comprises an Otto fuel containing a maximum of 42 vol.% aromatics and a sulfur content of a maximum of 150 wt. ppm, and a small amount of an Otto fuel additive with effective detergency and valve seat antiwear properties. The additive comprises a hydrophobic hydrocarbon residue and a specified polar group selected from: (a) mono- and polyamino groups with up to 6 nitrogen atoms, (b) nitro groups optionally in combination with hydroxyl groups, (c) hydroxyl groups in combination with mono- and polyamino groups, (d) carboxyl groups or their alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salts, (e) sulfonic acid groups or their alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salts, (f) polyoxy 2-4C alkylene groups, (g) carboxylic acid ester groups, (h) groups derived from succinic acid anhydride with hydroxy and/or amino and/or amido and/or imido groups, and (i) groups obtained by Mannich conversion of phenolic hydroxyl groups with aldehydes and mono- and polyamines.
