Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for the production of polyurethane urea elastomers from (a) NCO-terminated prepolymers based on polyisocyanates and polyethers having a molecular weight of 400 to about 10,000 and an ethylene oxide content of about 10 to 60 mole-% and (b) solid diaminodiphenyl ureas corresponding to the formula wherein R1, R2, R3 and R4 may be the same or different and represent hydrogen or C1-C6 alkyl radicals and wherein the amino groups are in the m-and/or p-position to the urea group, characterized in that the NCO prepolymers are reacted with the diaminodiphenyl ureas in powder-form in a heterogeneous phase at temperatures of about 5 DEG to 40 DEG C. The present invention is also directed to the polyurethane urea elastomers prepared by this process.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for the production of solid polyisocyanates of retarded reactivity stabilized by surface modification by reacting solid, finely divided polyisocyanates, and particularly dimeric tolylene diisocyanate, dimeric diphenylmethane diisocyanate and 3,3'-diisocyanato-4,4'-dimethyl-N,N'-diphenyl urea, with acyclic, mono- or bicyclic compounds having an amidine or guanidine structure and which do not contain any hydrogen atoms reactive to isocyanates at room temperature in a quantity of from 0.1 to 25 equivalent percent of "amidine" or "guanidine" per isocyanate equivalent. The reaction may be carried out directly in a liquid medium selected from the group consisting of active hydrogen compounds, plasticizers, water, and solvents to form a suspension of polyadduct-coated, stabilized polyisocyanates in the liquid medium.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the in situ production of dispersions or solutions of urea group-containing aromatic isocyanates by the low temperature reaction of aromatic diisocyanates and/or polyisocyanates (the NCO groups of which preferably exhibit different reactivities) with from 0.15 to 0.4 mols of water per NCO equivalent in relatively high molecular weight polyols and in the presence of catalysts accelerating the NCO/water reaction. Such catalysts are preferably selected from peralkylaminoalkyl ethers, peralkylamino-polyalkylene ethers and/or peralkyl-polyalkylene-polyamines. The present invention also relates to the resulting metastable solutions or dispersions and to the use thereof, optionally with the further addition of relatively high and low molecular weight compounds having hydroxyl, amino or hydrazide groups and with the optional addition of other polyisocyanates in polyurethane-forming ratios for the production of polyurethanes.

Abstract: Diisocyanates corresponding to the formula in which R1, R2, R3, R4, R5 and R6 (an isocyanate-containing radical) are as defined herein are made by several processes. These diisocyanates may be made by phosgenating the diamine in which the diisocyanate is based. They may also be produced by treating the bis-urethane of the tertiary alcohol corresponding to the diisocyanate with phosgene. Such diisocyanates may also be made by treating a specific type of bis-urea with hydrogen chloride. The diisocyanates corresponding to the above-given formula are particularly useful in the production of polyurethanes having good flame-proof and mechanical properties.

Abstract: The instant invention is directed to a substantially solvent-free molding material, comprising (A) from 92 to 30% by weight, of an active-hydrogen containing prepolymer containing: from 0.3 to 4% by weight, based on the prepolymer, of free primary and/or secondary amino groups, from 1.5 to 10% by weight, based on the prepolymer, of urethane groups, and from 1.5 to 10% by weight, based on the prepolymer, of urea groups; (B) from 24 to 1% by weight of a polyisocyanate having a melting point above 120 DEG C.; and (C) from 5 to 69% by weight of an organic or inorganic fibrous material with a fiber length of from 0.1 to 100 mm, the equivalent ratio between NCO groups, including masked NCO groups, and active H-atoms of components (A) and (B) is between 1:1 and 1:1.75. The instant invention is also directed to a process for the production of the substantially solvent-free molding material.
