Abstract: Process for improving the free-flowing properties and preventing the agglomeration of finely-divided dimerised 2,4-toluenedi- isocyanate (I) comprises adding 0.01-10 wt.% pptd. and/or pyrogenic silica with a hydrophobic surface (II). (I) with improved flow properties is also claimed, with particle size 2-25 microns and contg. 0.01-10 wt.% (II) as above. Amt. of (II) is pref. 0.1-2.5 wt.%; (II) is added at any point in the prodn. of (I), pref. after pptn. of solid (I) and before working-up and milling, or after drying and milling (I); (II) is used with other additives.

Abstract: The present invention relates to cold setting compositions of (A) suspensions of solid polyisocyanates with retarded reactivity in aliphatic polyamines, and which are stable under storage due to a polyadduct covering, and (B) polyols and/or water. The activation of the composition is caused by the polyol or water. Additional activating materials can also be added for hardening. Such compositions, which already harden at ambient temperature, are stable under storage, have a long potlife for processing and, in relation to the potlife, have a very short hardening time to the final reaction product.

Abstract: Encapsulated polyisocyanates are prepd. by i) mixing a solid, finely divided polyisocyanate (I) of m. pt. above 38 deg. C with a polyisocyanate (II) of different compsn. in ratio 0.05-50 pts. wt. (II) per 100 pts. wt. (I) at temp. below m. pt. of (I), opt. (II) being dissolved or suspended in an inert, low polar organic solvent, and ii) reacting the coated (I) particles with approx. equiv. amt. of a cpd. (III) reactive to isocyanates to form a polymer capsule from (II) and (III) on the solid core particles of (I). - Finely divided polyisocyanates of retarded reactivity, encapsulated in a different polymer, opt. suspended in a higher mol. polyol and/or higher mol. polyamine, and obtainable by above process through reaction of solid (I) particles, coated by (II), with a (III).

Abstract: The novel features in the mfr. of heat-hardenable, one-component polyurethanes on the basis of (A) polyisocyanates, (B) high mol.wt. reactive H cpds. and opt. also (c) low mol.wt. chain extenders or crosslinkers, plasticisers, catalyst and/or other conventional additives, are that (i) (A) is a finely-divided polyisocyanate 0.1-25 equiv.% of whose NCO surface gps. are de-activated; and (ii) (B) is a mixt. of (B1) 5-40 wt.% (based on (B)) of an aliphatic polyether-polyamine and (B2) 95-60 wt.% polyol mixt. consisting of (a) 10-60 wt.% polyesterpolyol with a carboxylic acid ester and/or polycarboxylic acid ester structure; and (b) 90-40 wt.% polyether-polyol with mainly prim. OH functionality.
