Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electron emitting element, capable of suppressing oxidizing reaction without providing an ultrahigh vacuum atmosphere, capable of obtaining stable electron emission with suppressed aged deterioration over a long period of time, and provide an image forming device using the same, capable of displaying a stable image, while suppressing variations and deterioration in brightness. SOLUTION: A base electrode 3 is provided on a substrate 4, and an emitter part 8 is provided on the base electrode 3. The emitter part 8 is formed into a shape having a sharp tip, an insulation layer 5 is provided around it, and a gate electrode 6 is disposed on the insulation layer 5. The tip of the emitter part 8 acts as an electron emitting body 1. The emitter part 8 including the electron emitting body 1 and the gate electrode 6 are each coated/filmed with a covering member 2, made of a poly-inorganic salt and having a fixed thickness (0.5 to 20 nm). A power supply 7 is connected between the gate electrode 6 and the base electrode 3, and electric field is concentrated on the tip of the emitter part 8, thereby producing electron emission.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance electron emission efficiency, realize high fineness, lower driving voltage, stabilize characteristics, and reduce dispersion of characteristics by laminating a lower electrode, an insulating layer having pores, and an upper electrode on a substrate in order, and forming carbon deposits in the pores. SOLUTION: An insulating layer having pores 5 formed by anodization is formed on a lower electrode 2, and carbon is formed within the pore 5. When voltage is applied between the lower electrode 2 and an upper electrode 4 so as to raise the potential of the upper electrode 4, electrons injected from the lower electrode 2 are tunneled in the vacuum and emitted. Since the distance of a gap between carbon formed on the lower electrode 2 and the upper electrode 2 is almost constant, electron emission characteristics with low dispersion can be obtained. By using either one of graphite and amorphous carbon as an electron emitter grown from the lower electrode side, heat resistance is increased, and stable electron emitting characteristics are obtained in high reproducibility.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To seal speedily and secure a high yield by arranging a heating element between glass members, heating an entire sealed object up to a value less than a sealing temperature by a sealing material, while heating and melting the sealing material up to a desired sealing temperature, and impressing a desired load onto the glass members. SOLUTION: A face plate 1 and a glass outer frame 3 in an integrated state are arranged on a sealing part on the upside of the glass outer frame 3, overlapping a frit glass 4 and a current-carrying heating wiring 5. After that, a rear plate 2 is piled, these are sandwiched between hot plates, a weight is placed, and when heating load is uniformly impressed by this weight so as to flow the frit glass 4. The hot plates heat the whole up to a value less than a sealing temperature so as to reduce dispersion of temperature distribution in a glass envelope, that is a sealed object, impresses a voltage between removing electrodes of the current-carrying heating wiring 5, and heats the frit glass 4 up to a desired sealing temperature.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To equalize the quantity of electron beams emitted from each electron emitting element so as to perform a high-quality image display by varying the thickness of the carbonic film made on a conductive film, according to the wiring position of the electron emitting element, in each electron emitting element of an image forming device. SOLUTION: An element electrode material is stacked on a substrate 1, and then element electrode 4 and 5 are made on the face, and further organic metallic solution is applied and let alone, thus the element electrodes 4 and 5 are connected by the organic metallic film. Next, a conductive film 3 is made by heating and baking the organic metallic film is heated and baked, and then, patterning it. Furthermore, an electron emitter 2 is made in the conductive film 3 by applying currents between the element electrodes 4 and 5, and electron emitting elements obtained this way are connected electrically in plural numbers to form an image forming device. At this time, carbonic films 5, with different thickness, according to the wiring position of each element, are made on the conductive film 3 of each electron emitting element. Hereby, the quantity of electron beams emitted from each element can be equalized, and a high-grade image display can be obtained.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To eliminate the deviation in electron orbit and the change in the light emission position and light emission shape of phosphor by forming frit (powder, paste or fired matter) of a low melting glass and fine particle fillers of glass on which metal is formed on the surface. CONSTITUTION: The conductive frit consists of a low melting glass and fine particulates of glass on which metal is formed on the surfaces. The frit also consists of a low melting glass, fine particulates of glass on which metal is formed on the surfaces and a low-expansion ceramic filler. Ordinary insulating frit is used for fixing of an electron source substrate 71 as well as a face plate 86 and supporting frame 82. The conductive frit is used for fixing of the electron source (wiring) of the electron source substrate 71 as well as the electron acceleration electrode of the face plate 86 and spacers 89. As the result, the requirements for both of fixing strength and electrical connection are satisfied.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide connectability for pipes where alignment is easy and no risk of dislocation exists resulting from vibration, etc., in the baking process by providing a columnar insert bar penetrating a pipe to reach a through hole in a vacuum vessel, aligning the pipe with the through hole using the insert bar when the pipe is to be fixed to the vacuum vessel, and thereupon securing the pipe. CONSTITUTION: A mixture of frit glass and vehicle (binder and solvent) is provisionally baked and preformed in the form of a ring so that five bits of frit glass 5 are provided, which are laid around a through hole 109 in a back base board 101. An insert bar 107 is inserted into a pipe 4, and the tip is inserted into the through hole 109. The diameter of the bar 107 is a little smaller than that of the through hole 109, and the end on the side opposite the through hole is shaped in an overhung from the outside diameter of the pipe. In this condition, the whole construction is heated to the frit baking temp., and the insert bar 107 is removed in the condition that the pipe 4 is attached to the back board 101, and thus the pipe fixing process is completed. At this time, a frame to which the back board 101 and a front base board 102 as structural members is also attached sealedly with frit glass 108, and an image display device in the form of a vacuum vessel is achieved.
