Abstract: In a manufacture method of an electron-emitting device in which an electro-conductive film having an electron-emitting region is provided between electrodes disposed on a substrate, a step of forming the electron-emitting region comprises a step of forming a structural latent image in the electro-conductive film, and a step of developing the structural latent image. An electron source comprising a plurality of electron-emitting devices arrayed on a substrate, and an image-forming apparatus in combination of the electron source and an image-forming member are manufactured by using the electron-emitting devices manufactured by the above method. The position and shape of an electron-emitting region of each electron-emitting device can be controlled so as to achieve uniform device characteristics, resulting less variations in the amount of emitted electrons between the electron-emitting devices and in the brightness of pictures. Also, the need of flowing.a great current for formation of the electron-emitting region is eliminated and hence the current capacity of wiring can be reduced.

Abstract: An image display apparatus comprises a display panel formed by arranging in juxtaposition a face plate carrying thereon a phosphor and a rear plate carrying thereon electron-emitting devices within a housing. The phosphor is so arranged as to be irradiated with electrons emitted from the electron-emitting devices to display images. The image display apparatus further comprises an air blowing means for causing cooling air to flow between the display panel and the housing so that the cooling air first exchanges heat with either one of the rear plate or the face plate and then, after turning around, with the other plate. The air blowing means may be arranged at the centre of the housing, facing the rear plate. Alternatively, it may be arranged at a lateral proximity of the display panel.

Abstract: A flat panel image-forming apparatus comprises a rear plate (1) including electron emitting devices (2) on its surface and a face plate (4) including a fluorescent film (5). The face plate and rear plate are assembled and sealed with an outer frame. Spacers are provided for mechanical rigidity. The assembled structure is evacuated by means of vent tubes (9). To facilitate evacuation in a short time, the spacers are arranged in rows and columns and are staggered in position relative to each other, in alternate rows and columns, in a zigzag pattern, and do not lie on straight lines connecting any two of the vent tubes.
