    Abstract: The novel feature in a detergent of specified composition given below is that at least 1 wt.% is a polycarboxylate of schematic structure (X,Y,Z) where X = -(C(B)HC(A)(COOM)m (I), Y = -(C(B)HC(A)(R))n- (II) and Z = -(F)q-. In the formulae, A = H, OH, 1-6C alkyl, -CH2CO(DECO)r-1OM; B = H, OH, 1-6C alkyl or -COOM; D = -O- or = -NH-; E = 1-6C alkyl; F = a comonomer; M = H, alkali(ne earth) metal or optionally substituted ammonium; M' = M or =(CH2-CH2-O)1-4M; R = -SO3M or -R SO3; R = -CO-NH-CH(CH3)CH2-, -CH2-, -CH2-O-CH(CH2OH)H)CH2-, -C6H4- and/or -O(CH2)1-5; m = 60-99 mol.%; n = 1-40 mol.% and q = 0-50 mol.%. The specified composition comprises (by wt.): 5-40% surfactant, 5-50% Ca-binding silicate, 1-20% polycarboxylate, 0-30% further silicate, 0-30% carbonate, 0-10% organic complex former, 0-5% phosphonate, 0-30% phosphate, 0-20% hydroxycarboxylic acid, 0-30% bleach, 0-10% bleach activator, 0-5% optical brightener, 0-30% enzyme, 0-5% greying inhibitor, 0-8% defoaming agent and 0-40% filler. Also claimed is use of the polycarboxylate at 1-20 wt.% in a mild detergent containing up to 5-50 wt.% Ca ion-binding silicate and 5-40 wt.% surfactant.

    Abstract: A zeolite powder of the Na A type has an average particle size (50% point) of 1.6-3.2 microns, measured with the Cilas 715 granulometer. USE/ADVANTAGE - A liq. washing compsn. contg. the zeolite powder is claimed. The zeolite is a substit. for phosphate. The liq. washing compsn. has a satisfactory viscosity. In an example, (A) Aq. compsns. contg. 13% of Na alkylbenzene sulphonate as anionic detergent, and 7% of a 13-15C oxo alcohol ethoxylate (7 EO), and 15%, 25% or 35% of zeolite NaA of varying particle size, were tested for viscosity at 5 rpm; (B) In a storage stability test, using suspensions with 15%, 25% or 35% of zeolite NaA, max. stability was obtd. with a zeolite of particle size 1.8 microns, esp. with 25% of zeolite.
