    Abstract: PURPOSE: To eliminate by oxidation particulate cumulated on a particulate filter in a comparatively simple structure in which an electric heater, a burner, and the like are not used. CONSTITUTION: A bypass pipe 17 is connected to an exhaust pipe 13 so as to bypass a catalyst converter 14, respective flow rates of the catalyst converter 14 of exhaust gas and a bypass pipe 17 is regulated by a first valve 21, and a first valve 21 is controlled by a controller 28 on the basis of the detecting output of a temperature sensor 26 for detecting the exhaust gas temperature of an exhaust gas upstream side by the catalyst converter 14. A particulate collector 23 is arranged in the exhaust pipe 13 of an exhaust gas downstream side from the catalyst converter 14 and the bypass pipe 17, and a second valve 22 is arranged on the exhaust pipe 13 of an exhaust gas downstream side from the particulate collector 23 so as to regulate an exhaust gas flow rate. The first and second valves 21, 22 are controlled on the basis of detecting output of the temperature sensor 26 by a controller 28.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To oxidize carbon monoxide in a part of soot in regenerating a filter to prevent the generation of the carbon monoxide by collecting and purifying the soot contained in exhaust with the filter in normal running to prevent the generation of sulfate. CONSTITUTION:When a microcomputer 21 judges that an urban bus is traveling according to a signal from a vehicle speed sensor 22, an electric motor 26 is rotated forward and a filter bypass pipe 13 is closed by an exhaust gas change- over valve 14. Since current is not supplied to an electric motor 42, a soot burning gas change-over valve 20 is closed. Thus, exhaust gas of a Diesel engine 50 flows to a particulate filter 12 so that soot is collected and purified. Then, the microcomputer 21 supplied current to an electric motor 29 to run an axial fan 28 and send secondary air to the particulate filter 12 for burning the soot. Carbon monoxide contained in the burnt gas is oxidized to carbon dioxide by an oxidized catalyst 17.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the reaction efficiency of a catalyst in synthetic form in the course from start to the ordinary operation by treating the exhaust gas of an engine in a flow-through type metal filter for start at start time and treating the exhaust gas in a ceramic honeycomb catalyst for ordinary use in the ordinary operation. CONSTITUTION:When a master switch 20 is turned ON, and a diesel engine 30 starts, a microcomputer 19 electrifies an electrical heater 16 and an electric motor 18 on the basis of the detection signals of an engine revolution sensor 21, rack position sensor 22, and an exhaust gas temperature sensor 27, to heat a metal honeycomb catalyst 15 as well as to close a selector valve 17. Then, the exhaust gas of the diesel engine 30 flows into the metal honeycomb catalyst 15 from an auxiliary pipe 13, and is purified. When the diesel engine 30 is transferred to the ordinary operation from a starting state, the selector valve 17 is opened, and allows the exhaust gas to flow into a ceramic honeycomb catalyst 12 for ordinary use from an exhaust pipe 32.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To securely restrain separated and collected soot from returning to a filter again by cutting off a scavenge chamber from an exhaust pipe and also connecting a dust collecting chamber to the scavenge chamber, and an exhaust bypass to the exhaust pipe respectively at the time of backwashing. CONSTITUTION:A backwash type filter system 10 is constructed by containing a scavenge chamber 11 which is provided with a ceramic honeycomb filter 23 cleaned by a backward air current and connected to the half way of the exhaust pipe 53 of an engine 50, a dust collecting chamber 12 communicated with the gas inlet 27 of the scavenge chamber 11, and an exhaust bypass 13 which bypasses the scavenge chamber 11 to be connected to the exhaust pip 53. At the time of backwashing, the scavenge chamber 11 is cut off from the exhaust pipe 53, at the same time, the dust collecting chamber 12 is connected to the scavenge chamber 11, and the exhaust bypass 13 is connected to the exhaust pipe 53, respectively. Soot is thereby separated from the filter 23 by a backward air flows and is collected in the dust collecting chamber 12. Consequently, treated gas quantity is sufficiently secured to improve backwash efficiency, and also the soot separated and collected from the filter 23 is restrained from returning to the filter 23 again.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To suppress the deterioration of a filter by its clogging and enable its long-term use by forming the filter of a ceramic filter, a ceramic mount, and an oxidizing catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A filter 10 is entirely formed into a rectangular plate by a porous ceramic filter 11 having one surface used as a filter face 20, a ceramic mount 12 integrally bonded to the other surface, and an oxidizing catalyst 13 supported within the ceramic filter 11. Hence, the soot accumulated within the ceramic filter 11 is burnt at an exhaust gas temperature by the oxidizing catalyst 13, and the heat by the burning of the soot is transmitted to the ceramic mount 12 to suppress the burning of the ceramic filter 11. Thus, as the exhaust gas temperature is increased in a high load running of an engine, the burning of the soot is accelerated to suppress the deterioration of the ceramic filter 11 by its clogging. The frequency of washings by the reversed air flow is reduced, and the filter can be used for a long time.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To make it possible to alter the quantity of fuel injection and injection timing based on information about the properties of fuel by providing an input device which inputs the properties of fuel into an electronic control device controlling both an electronic governor and an electronic timer. CONSTITUTION:A micro-computer 21 forms judgement whether or not a property altering signal by a fuel property inputting device 25 is available, and when it is found to be available, the property of fuel is read in through the inputting device 25. Then, the quantity of fuel injection is computed based on information about the read-in property of fuel, and a map for the quantity of fuel injection is concurrently altered in accordance with computed values. Furthermore, timing for injection is computed based on data about the properties of fuel, and the map for fuel injection is altered based on the result of the computation. This situation therefore alters the quantity of fuel injection and timing for injection depending on the values of fuel properties accompanied with the alternation of fuel.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To accelerate the afterburning of particulates, by providing a waste gate valve in a turbocharger, and opening the waste gate valve when an exhaust pressure on the upstream side of a particulate filter exceeds a predetermined value. CONSTITUTION:An exhaust system is provided with an exhaust turbine 16 and a particulate filter 19. An exhaust pressure sensor 22 is provided on the upstream side of the filter 19, and a detection signal from the sensor is input to a control device 21. When an exhaust pressure exceeds a predetermined value, a waste gate valve 20 is opened to feed a high-temperature exhaust gas to the filter 19. Accordingly, the afterburning of particulates in the filter 19 may be accelerated.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To maintain the injection pressure of fuel in a high engine rotational speed condition to aim at atomizing fuel, by changing the amount of return of fuel to be returned from a feed pump to a fuel tank in accordance with the rotational speed of the engine. CONSTITUTION:An injection pump bypass 14 connects a fuel tank 17 with a fuel feed pipe 20 on the discharge side of a feed pump 11, and a part of fuel discharged from a feed pump 11 is returned into the fuel tank 17. The control unit 16 controls current passing through a coil 32 in a control 15 in accordance with a signal from an engine rotational speed sensor 36. At a low engine rotational speed, the feed pressure of fuel fed into a fuel injection pump 12 is made to be high while the feed pressure of fuel fed into the fuel injection pump 12 is made to be low at a high rotational speed.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a large swirl ratio during low speed operation of an engine and a small swirl ratio during high-speed operation, and ultimately to improve the combustion efficiency of an engine by forming a stepped edge at the connection part between a suction manifold and a suction port. CONSTITUTION:A stepped edge 16 is formed at the connection part between a suction manifold and a suction port. When an engine 10 is operating at a low- speed, the flow rate of the air sucked from the suction manifold 13 is relatively slow. Thus the negative pressure of an area 17 created due to the stepped edge 16 is small and the air flows from the suction manifold 13 to a helical suction port 12 without being changed so much by the stepped edge 16. This is indicated by the singly-dotted line in the diagram. As a result, the swirl ratio becomes larger. On the other hand, when the engine is operating at a high speed, the negative pressure of the area 17 created due to the stepped edge 16 becomes larger and the flow is bent by the stepped edge 16. In other words, the air flows along the side wall 19 of the helical suction port 12 as shown by the doublly- dotted line and the swirl ratio becomes smaller.
