    Abstract: Polyvinylbutyrals (PVBs) having improved thermostability and, in some cases, improved light stability which contain, as stabilisers, polycyclic phenols of the formula I whose phenolic radicals contain a quaternary carbon atom in the para-position to the phenolic hydroxyl group, optionally in combination with synergistic nitrogen-, sulphur- or phosphorus-containing costabilisers of types a) to d) and may additionally contain light stabilisers, plasticisers, further conventional stabilisers, conventional release agents (antiblocking agents) and conventional additives. Process for the preparation of the stabilised PVBs, and the use thereof, preferably in plasticised form, for production of plasticiser-containing films by thermoplastic shaping. Use of the resultant low-yellowing films as interlayer films having a significantly reduced yellow coloration for the production of composite glasses or glass composites made from silicate glass sheets.

    Abstract: The polyolefin moulding material described consists of: 95-99.98 % by wt. of an olefin polymer, 0.01-2.5 % by wt. of at least one compound of formula (I), formula (II), formula (III), formula (IV): R - (S)x - R or formula (V), plus at least one phenolic anti-oxidant. This material, which is suitable for the production of calendered sheet, has only a very slight tendency to stick to the hot calendering rolls and the polymer molecules have only a slight tendency to decompose during processing.

    Abstract: Prodn. of organophosphorus derivs. (I) of 2,4-di-tert.-butylphenol, contg. a high proportion of organophosphorus derivs. of biphenyl, comprises (a) reaction of a 4,4'-dihalobiphenyl (II) (with halogen atomic wt. at least 35) with Mg to form the corresp. Grignard reagent, followed by (b) reaction with phosphorous acid bis-(2,4-di-tert.-butyl-phenyl)-ester chloride of formula (III) to form a mixt. in which at least 50 wt.% of the phosphorus is in the form of tetrakis-(2,4-di-tert. -butylphenyl) -4,4'-biphenylene-diphosphonite of formula (IV) (as determined by 31P-NMR). Pref. at least 60 wt.% of the P is in the form of cpd. (IV), stage (b) is carried out at 30 to +30 deg.C pref. -20 to +20 deg. C, (a) is carried out without an entraining agent, using finely-divided Mg which is kept in suspension, pref. by agitation, esp. pref. by ultrasonic means, amt. of Mg is 2.2-3 equivs. per mol. (II) and the halogen in (II) is Cl or Br.
