    Abstract: A wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU) is configured to operate in an high speed data packet access (HSDPA) mode in a cell and/or state and to clear HSDPA resources when moving out of the cell and/or state. The WTRU is configured to clear HSDPA resources when conditions to perform high speed downlink shared channel reception are not met. When in cell transition or state transition, the WTRU checks whether there is an ongoing a high speed downlink scheduling channel (HS-DSCH) reception, and if the new cell or state cannot support HS-DSCH, then the HSDPA resources being used for the ongoing HS-DSCH reception are released. The WTRU uses radio resource control (RRC) processing, and monitors various events and conditions such as an RRC variable HS_DSCH_RECEPTION_GENERAL, which tracks HS-DSCH reception for all states in order to make the determination whether to release HSDPA resources.

    Abstract: Method and apparatus for receiving high speed downlink shared channel (HS -DSCH) transmissions are disclosed. An HS-DSCH medium access control (MAC-eh s) entity receives MAC-ehs protocol data units (PDUs) via a high speed downl ink shared channel (HS-DSCH) while in one of Cell_FACH, Cell_PCH, and URA_PC H states. The reordering PDUs included in the MAC-ehs PDUs may be sent to a next processing entity without performing reordering of the PDUs. A certain reordering queue may enter a suspend state upon occurrence of a triggering e vent and MAC-ehs PDUs distributed to the reordering queue in the suspend sta te may be forwarded to the next processing entity without performing reorder ing. MAC-ehs reset procedure may be extended for a certain transmission such that the MAC-ehs reset is performed after receiving a MAC-ehs PDU in a targ et cell.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for generating and processing a high speed downlin k shared channel (HS-DSCH) medium access control (MAC-ehs) protocol data uni t (PDU) are disclosed. MAC-ehs service data units (SDUs) are multiplexed bas ed on a logical channel identity. Reordering PDUs are generated from the mul tiplexed MAC-ehs SDUs. A reordering PDU includes at least one MAC-ehs SDU an d/or at least one MAC-ehs SDU segment. A MAC-ehs SDU is segmented on a prior ity class basis if a MAC-ehs SDU does not fit into a reordering PDU. A MAC-e hs PDU is generated including at least one reordering PDU. The MAC-ehs SDUs may be stored in priority queues before generating the reordering PDUs. Alte rnatively, the reordering PDUs may be generated from the multiplexed MAC-ehs SDUs. Alternatively, the received MAC-ehs SDUs may be buffered in a corresp onding buffer for each logical channel before multiplexed based on a logical channel identity, or reordering PDUs are generated.

    Abstract: Cell update (and reselection) while in a Cell_FACH state. After selecting a target cell, system information is read from the target cell including hi gh speed downlink shared channel (HS-DSCH) common system information. A radi o network temporary identity (RNTI) received in a source cell is cleared and a variable HS_DSCH_RECEPTION is set to TRUE. An HS-DSCH medium access contr ol (MAC-hs) entity is configured based on the HS-DSCH common system informat ion. High speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) transmission is then received in the target cell. A CELL UPDATE message is sent to notify of a cell chang e. The HSDPA transmission may be received using a common H-RNTI broadcast in the system information, a reserved H-RNTI as requested in a CELL UPDATE mes sage, or a temporary identity which is a subset of a U-RNTI. The MAC-hs enti ty may be reset. Enhanced Cell FACH.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for transmitting and receiving a packet via high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) are disclosed. At least one HSDPA medium access control (MAC-hs) service data unit (SDU) is segmented into a plurality of segments. MAC-hs protocol data units (PDUs) are generated from the segments wherein each MAC-hs PDU includes at least one segment. Each MAC-hs PDU may include one segment from a single MAC-hs SDU. The size of the segments may match to the size of the MAC-hs PDUs minus the size of the header of the MAC-hs PDU. The sizes of the segments may be determined based on the number of segments to which the MAC-hs SDU is segmented. Alternatively, each MAC-hs PDU may include a combination of segments from a plurality of MAC-hs SDUs or a combination of at least one segment from one MAC-hs SDU and at least one entire MAC-hs SDU.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for sending a channel quality indication (CQI) via a shared channel while a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) is in a Cell_FACH state without having a dedicated channel allocated for the WTRU are disclosed. A WTRU performs a measurement of at least one parameter and generates a CQI based on the measurement. The WTRU then transmits the CQI via a random access channel (RACH). The CQI may be transmitted using an RACH preamble. A plurality of signature o sequences may be divided into a plurality of groups. The WTRU may select one group based on the CQI and randomly select a signature sequence among signature sequences in the selected group for transmitting the RACH preamble. The CQI may be appended to the RACH preamble. The CQI may be transmitted via a control part or a data part of the RACH message.
