Abstract: The invention provides a spread spectrum communication system for maintaining an initial transmit power level of a communication station during periods of inactivity. The system comprises a first station (501) and a second station (502), the initial transmit power level of which is maintained, wherein the first station generates an automatic power control signal by comparing a measured noise power level in a communication channel and an estimated system transmit power level and the second station occasionally transmits a spread spectrum signal whilst in an inactive state and receives the automatic power control signal to adjust an initial transmit power level thereof.

Abstract: Unidad de abonado de comunicación de espectro expandido que comprende un sistema de modificación del canal portador, dicha unidad de abonado estando destinada a ser utilizada en un sistema de comunicación de acceso múltiple de espectro extendido, que incluye una pluralidad de señales de información que tienen varias velocidades de canales diferentes, en donde las señales de información se transmiten como señales de mensaje a través de un canal de radiofrecuencia, RF, como una señal multiplexada por división de código, CDM, la unidad de abonado estando caracterizada por el hecho de que comprende: un receptor, SU, que incluye un medio (2330) de modificación del modo de canal de información en respuesta a una señal de mensaje de control de recepción, RCTRL, para indicar un cambio en una combinación de las señales de información recibidas de una primera señal de mensaje a una segunda señal de mensaje para soportar una velocidad del canal de información diferente; medios de control para determinar la información de codificación y modificación de la velocidad del portador a partir de la señal de mensaje de control de recepción, en donde la información de codificación y modificación del portador se recupera desexpandiendo la señal de mensaje de control recibida, RCTRL, y medios para proporcionar la segunda señal de mensaje desexpandida a una interfaz de datos para decodificar la segunda señal de mensaje desexpandida y medios para proporcionar el mensaje de control de recepción al medio de control que controla la decodificación de la segunda señal de mensaje desexpandida.
