    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for perfumery and amino acid, in high yield and selectivity, by reacting an aniline compound with an ethylene glycol compound in the presence of a catalyst controlling the maximum temperature of the reaction mixture at a specific level. CONSTITUTION:An indole compound is produced from an inexpensive raw material in short step, by reacting an aniline compound with an ethylene glycol compound in the presence of a solid acid catalyst such as SiO2-ZnO-AgO, cadmium sulfide, cadmium sulfate, etc. or a metallic catalyst such as Ag, etc., supported on a carrier having large specific surface area, in vapor phase.     Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound in high selectivity, by the selective alkylation of the H atom at the ortho-position of phenols, in the presence of a catalyst having improved temperature activity and catalytic life and prepared by the reducing treatment of a catalyst containing chromium oxide, etc. before reaction. CONSTITUTION:Phenols containing one or more ortho-alkyl groups and useful as a raw material for the preparation of polyphenylene ether, is prepared by the gas- phase catalytic ortho-alkylation reaction of phenols having one or more H atoms at the aromatic ring and denoted by the formula (R1-R5 are H, 1-4C hydrocarbon group, or aromatic hydrocarbon group; at least one of R1-R5 is H) with 1-4C lower alcohols in the presence of a catalyst containing chromium oxide, etc. at 310-530 deg.C and a gas space velocity of 250-20.000hr . The catalyst is prepared by calcining the raw materials in a reducing gas atmosphere, and forming to the desired form; e.g. by calcining a dried catalytic composition in a reducing gas atmosphere at 200-600 deg.C for 0.3-30hr, and forming with a tableting press, etc.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare an alkenylphenol useful as a monomer, in high conversion and selectivity, by catalytically dehydrogenating an alkylphenol having a >=2C alkyl group in vapor phase at a relatively low temperature in the presence of a catalyst consisting mainly of chromium oxide. CONSTITUTION:An alkenylphenol (e.g. p-vinylphenol) is prepared by catalytically dehydrogenating an alkylphenol having a >=2C alkyl group (e.g. p-ethylphenol) in vapor phase in the presence of a catalyst consisting mainly of chromium oxide. The catalyst consists mainly of chromium oxide and contains one or more compounds selected from tin oxide, ion oxide, manganese oxide, silicon dioxide, sulfate group, etc. The reaction is carried out at 380-640 deg.C and water is preferably used as a diluent. Water increases the regenerative cycles of the catalyst.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To carry out the orthoalkylation of a phenolic compound, selectively, by using a highly active and long-life catalyst containing chromium oxide modified with at least one kind of compounds of alkali metals or alkaline-earth metals. CONSTITUTION:A phenolic compound having at least one H at the ortho position and an alcohol are subjected to the vapor-phase catalytic reaction at 260-520 deg.C, using a catalyst containing chromiun oxide which is obtained by modifying (A) a catalyst containing chromium oxide alone or containing chromium oxide as the main and besides at least one kind of metal oxides of tin, iron, manganese, etc. or/and sulfate group, etc., with (B) at least one kind of compounds of alkali metals or alkaline-earth metals, by kneading, dipping, etc., whereby the phenolic compounds is selectively orthoalkylated to give the alkylphenol.     Abstract: PURPOSE:To activate easily and rapidly Cr2O3-contg. catalyst with little change of the appearance by specifying the concn. and flow rate of oxygen in mixed gas to be contacted to the catalyst in (n+1)th regeneration in accordance with the ratio of oxygen-contg. hydrocarbon (CHO) adhered to the catalyst surface. CONSTITUTION:When Cr2O3-contg. catalyst the activity of which has been lowered in alkylation of phenols with methanol or the like is activated with mixed gas contg. oxygen and steam, the concn. of oxygen [PO2; molar fraction] in the mixed gas and the flow rate [FO2; l/min (catalyst 1kg)] of oxygen in the mixed gas in (n+1)th regeneration are changed conforming to equation II or III and equation IV or V, respectively in accordance with a change of ratio RT of CHO adhered to the catalyst surface. The ratio is represented by equation I wherein So is BET specific surface area of catalyst immediately after n-th regeneration; omegaO is wt. of catalyst immediately after n-th regeneration; ST is BET specific surface area of catalyst at time T in (n+1)th regeneration; and omegaT is wt. of catalyst at time T in (n+1)th regeneration.
