    Abstract: There is disclosed an acrylamide aqueous solution refining process wherein an acrylamide aqueous solution obtained through a catalytic hydration process etc. is distilled to remove acrylonitrile when necessary; then is treated with active carbon, which has been arranged to adsorb cupric ion before use so that the polymerization of acrylamide that tends to take place around active carbon can be prevented thereby; and, if necessary, deionization is carried out by means of ion-exchange resin.

    Abstract: A method for economically concentrating an acrylamide aqueous solution by catalytic hydration without substantial deterioration in the product. According to the method, an acrylamide aqueous solution obtained from catalytic hydration, is concentrated by distillation while maintaining the solution in good contact with at least 0.1 mole. or more of air per mole. of water distilled from the acrylamide aqueous solution.

    Abstract: Indoles were prepd. by reacting aniline or its derivs. with 1,2- glycol under catalysts. Thus, a soln. contg. 30 g cadmium nitrate and 19 g 60%-HNO3 in 300 ml H2O was mixed with 130 g glass fiber contg. 29% SiO2 and 9% Na2O in 2 liters H2O to give a matrix (10-28 mesh; specific surface area=240 m2/g). This material was soaked in 25 wt.% AgNO3, dried at 80≦̸C, and reduced by boiling at 150≦̸C for 2 hrs. to give a catalyst. A mixt. contg. 7 M aniline and 1 M ethylene glycol was introduced into the reactor contg. a catalyst at the rate of 0.3 liter-mixt./1 liter-catalyst. At the same time, a mixt. contg. aniline and N2-gas (aniline; N2=1M:10M) was passed through the reactor. After reaction, the yield of ethylene glycol produced was 63% between 1 and 3 hrs. and 28% between 25 and 27 hrs.

    Abstract: An improved prepn. of indole comprises reacting aniline with ethylene glycol in the gas phase in the presence of a catalyst. Ethylene glycol is fed to satisfy a condition that n is (M-1)/(A-1) or more. In the formula, n is the number of divided supply ports; M is the min. number of aniline per mol. of ethylene glycol in the catalytic bed; and A is the mol. number of aniline per mol. of total ethylene glycol fed into the reactor. The process gives a large yield of indole, while reducing the amt. of unreacted aniline.

    Abstract: A process is provided for the preparation of an indole from aniline or a derivative thereof and a polyhydric alcohol. The reaction is carried out in the presence of a catalyst composed of a carrier having a specific surface area of at least 10 m /g and silver supported on the carrier. The catalyst also contains as an additional component a specific amount of at least one element selected from Co, Fe and Ni. Deterioration in catalytic performance of the catalyst during the reaction and its regeneration are therefore minimized.
