Abstract:
A time division multiplexed (TDM) communication system, which apportions radio frequency communication channels into at least two time slots. Voice signals for transmission on this system are analyzed and vo-coded into a digital signal that is transmitted during one or more of the time slots. Received messages are recovered from at least one of these time slots and the voice message synthesized from the vo-coded signal. In this manner multiple voice messages may be transceived in a time division multiplexed manner on a single narrowband communication channel.

Abstract:
A digital voice storage mobile control terminal adapted for use in multiple unit land mobile radio communications system. The mobile control terminal utilizes up to eight 64K dynamic RAMs to store up to 42 seconds of speech comprising up to eight separate messages as well as a CVSD encoder-decoder to digitize speech messages.
Abstract:
A digital voice storage system adapted for use in a multiple unit land mobile radio communications system. The system utilizes a PSK signalling system with fixed length data packets to control a system capable of multiple message storage of speech at mobile stations. Up to eight 64K dynamic RAMS are used in conjunction with a microprocessor to store up to 42 seconds of speech comprising up to eight separate messages. In addition, the system permits base interrogation of mobiles to determine if a message has been stored for review by the base operator and to determine the remaining recording capacity and total recording capacity of the mobile.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for providing forward link softer handoff in a code division multiple access communication system comprises utilizing spatially diverse antenna arrays and rerouting a softer handoff talk channel from a radiation pattern (415) of a first antenna array (404) into a radiation pattern (417) of a second antenna array (406).
Abstract:
A register-modelled radio system (100) comprising a plurality of register-modelled processors (110) having addressable registers (240) for modelling the virtual state of the processor; a serial bus (230), interconnecting the register-modelled processors (110) for communicating between the addressable registers (240); and a communications protocol (Figs. 3 and 10) for passing said information to or from said addressable registers (240), whereby the virtual state of said radio portion may be determined or altered by, respectively, communicating information from or to said addressable register (240). The communications protocol (Fig. 3) further comprises information packet having an address, an operation code, optional data, and an error detection device, such as a cyclical redundancy check packet. The operation code is chosen from the group of primitive operation codes reset, read, write, bit set, bit clear, acknowledge, and negative acknowledge.

A method and apparatus for providing forward link softer handoff in CDMA communication system comprises utilizing dual polarization antenna arrays (404) and rerouting a softer handoff talk channel from a radiation pattern of a first antenna array (A+) into a radiation pattern of a second antenna array (A-).
Abstract:
In a communication system having at least one physical channel shared by a plurality of time divided users (21, 22), a method is provided of dynamically adjusting a maximum number of users allowed access to the at least one physical channel. The method includes the steps of calculating a voice activity factor of each user of the plurality of time divided users (21, 22) and adjusting the maximum number of users based upon the calculated voice activity factors. An apparatus is provided for implementing the described method.
