Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. Generally, the described techniques provide for a user equipment (UE) receiving a configuration message from a base station for supporting random access channel (RACH) type selection by the UE. The configuration message may include one or more reference signals and one or more link quality thresholds corresponding to the one or more reference signals. The UE may generate measurements of the reference signals and determine link quality for communications between the UE and the base station based on the measurements. Based on a comparison between the link quality to corresponding link quality thresholds, the UE may select a two-step random access procedure, a four-step random access procedure, or both for establishing a connection with the base station. In some cases, the UE considers system loading information, transmission parameters, or random access rules in selecting the random access procedure.

Abstract: A random access configuration information based on a reference SCS may allow for a unified coordinate system used by the base station and UEs that describes the time- frequency resource configuration for a two-step RACH procedure. The apparatus receives, from a base station, random access configuration information for the base station. The apparatus determines a first time duration for a preamble of a first random access message based on the random access configuration information received from the base station and a reference SCS associated with an uplink BWP configured for the first random access message. The apparatus determines a second time duration for a payload of the first random access message based on the random access configuration information received from the base station and the reference SCS. The apparatus transmits the first message to the base station to initiate a random access procedure.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may receive an indication of a resource configuration for a random access (RA) procedure. The resource configuration may identify multiple sets of transmission resources corresponding to multiple radio resource control (RRC) states. The UE may identify an RRC state and may determine a set of transmission resources and/or a transport format based on the indication of the resource configuration, the identified RRC state, and/or a UE identifier (UE ID). The UE may transmit a first RA procedure message (e.g., a msgA) using the determined transmission resources and/or transport format. The base station may receive the message and may identify the RRC state of the UE based on the first message and transmitted indication of the resource configuration. The base station may transmit a second RA procedure message (e.g., a msgB), which the UE may receive.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to methods and devices for communicating based on improved signaling. A base station can transmit an indication of resources in time and frequency to a UE allocated for NOMA communication with the UE. The indication of resources can comprise a set of NA-RUs. The UE can then transmit uplink NOMA communication to the base station based on the indication of resources received from the base station. Also, the base station can transmit a compact UL resource grant via DCI, or signal the semi-static transport format configuration via RRC, to the UEs allocated for NOMA communication. The DCI or the payload of RRC signaling can be scrambled with a NOMA group RNTI, as well as comprise NOMA transmission parameters indicated by a MCS table. The UE can then transmit uplink NOMA communication to the base station based on the DCI or the RRC signaling.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that support frequency and time domain multiplexing for low peak-to-average waveforms with multiple streams. A user equipment (UE) may identify sets of symbols associated with different streams (e.g., multiple single-carrier discrete Fourier transform (DFT)-spread waveforms), where each stream may be associated with a low peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). In some cases, different waveforms may be mapped to subsets of frequency resources through frequency division multiplexing (FDM). The UE may further reduce the PAPR of the multiplexed waveforms by performing time division multiplexing (TDM) across the single-carrier streams, and sets of symbols that are not used by one waveform may be used by another waveform. Frequency domain phase ramps may be applied to align the multiplexed waveforms. Signals included in an uplink transmission according to these techniques may maintain properties similar to single-carrier waveforms, including a low PAPR.
