Abstract:
Systems and methods are disclosed for mitigating interference between Radio Access Technologies (RATs) sharing operating spectrum in an unlicensed band of radio frequencies. The mitigation may comprise, for example, identifying an upcoming signal transmission associated with a first RAT, with the signal transmission being scheduled for transmission on the shared operating spectrum during a transmission period. The signal transmission may be classified with respect to a protection status. Based on the protection status, a channel reservation message may be transmitted that is associated with a second RAT to reserve at least a portion of the shared operating spectrum for at least a portion of the transmission period.
Abstract:
Techniques for co-existence between wireless Radio Access Technologies (RATs) are disclosed. During an active period of a Discontinuous Transmission (DTX) communication pattern, a first signal may be transmitted during a first subframe and a second signal may be transmitted during a second subframe, while during an inactive period the first signal may be transmitted during the first subframe and the second signal may be omitted during the second subframe. Retransmission of one or more packets may take place over a subset of less than all retransmission opportunities based on the DTX communication pattern. A Secondary Cell (SCell) may be reconfigured as the Primary Cell (PCell) and the PCell may be reconfigured as the SCell for one or more access terminals based on a load balancing condition or a channel selection condition.
Abstract:
Techniques for co-existence between wireless Radio Access Technologies (RATs) and related operations in shared spectrum are disclosed. Operation on a communication medium shared between RATs may be managed by a transceiver configured to operate in accordance with a first RAT and to monitor the medium for signaling associated with a second RAT. A medium analyzer may be configured to determine one or more Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) parameters of a TDM communication pattern associated with the second RAT based on the monitored signaling. A transmission controller may be configured to set one or more transmission parameters for the first RAT based on the determined one or more TDM parameters. The transceiver may be further configured to transmit on the medium in accordance with the one or more transmission parameters.
Abstract:
Described herein are techniques for efficient LTE operation in the unlicensed band. For example, the technique may involve initiating, at the wireless device, a signal measurement of an unlicensed communication band device. The technique may also involve sending, to an access point configured for operation in the unlicensed communication band, a measurement report including the signal measurement of the unlicensed communication band device.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for Carrier Sense Adaptive Transmission (CSAT) and related operations in unlicensed spectrum are disclosed to reduce interference between co-existing Radio Access Technologies (RATs). The parameters for a given CSAT communication scheme may be adapted dynamically based on received signals from a transceiver for a native RAT to be protected and an identification of how that RAT is utilizing a shared resource such as an unlicensed band. Other operations such as Discontinuous Reception (DRX) may be aligned with a CSAT Time Division Multiplexed (TDM) communication pattern by way of a DRX broadcast / multicast message. Different TDM communication patterns may be staggered in time across different frequencies. Channel selection for a co-existing RAT may also be configured to afford further protection to native RATs by preferring operation on secondary channels as opposed to primary channels.
Abstract:
The present disclosure presents a method and an apparatus for improving performance of a user equipment (UE) operating in unlicensed spectrum. For example, the disclosure presents a method for receiving, at the UE, a secondary component carrier (SCC) update from a small cell. The example method further includes tuning the UE to a second SCC in response to receiving the update. The update is received at the UE when the small cell operating on a first radio access technology (RAT) determines that a channel associated with a first SCC of the small cell is also in use by another entity operating on a second RAT. As such, improved performance of a user equipment (UE) operating in an unlicensed spectrum may be achieved.
Abstract:
Shared spectrum operation is disclosed for sharing spectrum among multiple wireless deployments. Coordination procedures between and among 2nd and 3rd Tier deployments include the use of beacons transmitted by the 2nd Tier for clearing access to spectrum occupied by 3rd Tier users and multiple 3rd Tier deployments sharing resources using a group-listen before talk (LBT) protocol, rather than a per-node LBT protocol. The 2nd Tier beacon signals are transmitted to alert 3rd Tier users of their presence, which, upon detection, will leave the particular spectrum within a predetermined time. For the shared LBT protocol, the 3rd Tier deployments share the channel with each other through an LBT with random backoff, in which the start time of clear channel assessment (CCA) procedure and the random backoff values are synchronized among nodes of the same deployment.
Abstract:
The disclosure relates to reducing Wi-Fi interference from small cells that provide cellular coverage in unlicensed bands. In particular, in response to determining that a small cell is substantially unloaded (e.g., has traffic below a threshold), the small cell may be switched to a reduced interference configuration. For example, the small cell may be switched to a low downlink configuration to reduce interference in a time domain and/or a low bandwidth configuration to reduce interference in a frequency domain. Alternatively (or additionally), the small cell and/or any other small cells that have traffic below the threshold may switch to the same frequency and/or channel number to concentrate all possible interference on the same frequency and/or channel number. Further still, the configuration may be switched in a power domain, where a transmit power associated with the small cell may be adapted based on cellular measurements in combination with Wi-Fi measurements.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus are provided for receiver measurement assisted access point control. A method operable by a Wi-Fi network entity includes signaling at least one trigger indication to at least one station served by the Wi-Fi network entity for interference measurements. The method includes receiving interference measurements taken based on the at least one trigger indication from the at least one station. The method includes tuning transmitter parameters based on the received interference measurements.
Abstract:
The present disclosure presents a method and apparatus for identifying an access point (AP) for selection by an access terminal (AT). For example, the method may include receiving a probe request by one or more APs from an AT, wherein the probe request is broadcasted by the AT to the one or more APs, generating load information and Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) values of the probe request at the one or more APs, identifying an AP of the one or more APs for selection by the AT, wherein the AP for selection by the AT is identified by the one or more APs based at least on the load information and RSSI values generated at the one or more APs, and transmitting information of an AP identified by the one or more APs to the AT. As such, an improved mechanism for selecting an access point may be achieved.
