    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may use easily detectable transmission parameters to infer difficult-to-detect parameters for communications with a base station. For example, the base station may provide the UE with multiple sets of transmission parameters, and the UE 115 may choose from among these sets of transmission parameters for the communications. In some cases, the UE may be configured with a reference set of transmission parameters, receive one or more transmission parameters that are different relative to the reference set of transmission parameters, and then determine to use the different transmission parameters for the communications. Additionally or alternatively, the multiple sets of transmission parameters may be specified for a certain uplink message (e.g., random access channel messages), where the UE selects the transmission parameter set based on one or more characteristics of the uplink message.

A user equipment (UE) may determine to decode or refrain from decoding a transport block (TB) transmitted from a base station based on a decodability condition. The decodability condition may include whether an effective UE throughput for decoding the TB is greater than a predetermined decoding throughput threshold or not. If the effective UE throughput is greater than the predetermined decoding throughput threshold, the UE may refrain from decoding the TB. In some cases, the TB may be a subsequent transmission from the base station based on an initial transmission not being correctly decoded, and the UE may refrain from decoding the subsequent transmission.

    Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques and apparatus for determining a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) and channel quality indicator (CQI) for ultra-reliable low latency communications (URLLC). An exemplary method generally includes receiving a channel quality indicator (CQI) from a user equipment (UE) and retrieving parameters from a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) table using the CQI, wherein the table has entries corresponding to different spectral efficiency (SE) values selected to allow the BS to efficiently allocate resources at low SE values to achieve at least a target block error rate (BLER). The method also includes sending a transmission to the UE based on the retrieved parameters.

A wireless device may receive downlink control information corresponding to a transmission of a transport block over a plurality of transmission time intervals (TTIs). The wireless device may identify a redundancy version sequence for the transport block. The redundancy version may be a pre-defined sequence or may be configured by higher layer signaling based on sequence criterion. The wireless device may transmit or receive a plurality of redundancy versions of the transport block in the plurality of TTIs based at least in part on the redundancy version sequence. In some examples, the plurality of redundancy versions may be determined based at least in part on a starting redundancy version identified by another wireless device.
