    Abstract: A primary winding of a power transformer is coupled to a source of DC voltage. First and second controllable switches are coupled to the primary winding in a push-pull arrangement. A control circuit responsive to a deflection rate input signal that is synchronized with deflection circuit scanning applies a turn-off switching signal alternately to the two controllable switches during each deflection cycle. In response to the turnoff of each one of the two controllable switches, a turn-on switching signal is applied to the other switch to develop a deflection rate alternating polarity output voltage across an output winding of the power transformer. The output voltage is rectified and applied to a deflection generator to thereby energize the generator into developing scanning current in a deflection winding.

    Abstract: An S-correction circuit for a video display apparatus provides switchable amounts of correction in a given line deflection interval in order to satisfy the requirements of cathode ray tubes having large deflection angles or faceplates having complex curvatures. A second S-shaping capacitor (42) is coupled in parallel with the main S-shaping capacitor (16) by action of a switching transistor (40). The time at which the transistor (40) is switched may be controlled, for example, by modulating the switching point at a vertical rate, in order to increase the flexibility of the correction circuit.

    Abstract: A horizontal deflection system is operable either from rectified and filtered alternating current line voltage or from a substantially lower voltage direct current voltage source. The need for a step-down transformer in the receiver power supply is eliminated by utilizing the horizontal output transformer to drop the rectified and filtered alternating current voltage when the receiver is operated in the alternating current line mode. The horizontal output transformer is utilized as a step-up inverter when the receiver is operated from the low voltage direct current source to produce a direct current voltage at a point on the horizontal output transformer substantially equal to the rectified and filtered alternating current line voltage.

    Abstract: A single pole switching arrangement maintains the filament of the cathode-ray kinescope of a television receiver at full power when the set is turned to an "ON" condition and connected to an alternating current power source, but operates the filament at half power when the set is turned to its "OFF" state. When the receiver is connected to a direct current power source, on the other hand, no filament power is used when the single pole arrangement switches the set to its "OFF" condition, thereby extending the number of viewing hours between direct current battery re-charges, for example. Switching the single pole arrangement to turn the receiver to its "ON" state when the set is connected to the direct current source once again applies full power to the kinescope filament.
