Abstract: A horizontal deflection turn-on circuit operates in the absence of trigger pulse normally derived by an AFPC loop. Under normal operation, the AFPC loop generates the trigger pulses based on a synchronized phase relationship with sampled flyback pulses. During receiver start-up, the flyback pulses are not present and no trigger pulses are generated. The turn on circuit provides auxiliary pulses which occur later in time than the normal occurrence of the trigger pulses. Means are provided for applying the auxiliary pulses to the horizontal deflection circuit only in the absence of normal trigger pulses.

Abstract: An automatic gain control arrangement is provided for an analog to digital (A/D) converter in a television signal processing system. A gain-controlled source of analog signals applies a video information signal to the input of an A/D converter. The A/D converter produces digitized video signal samples at an output which is coupled to a digital peak detector. The digital peak detector detects the level of the digital samples of the synchronizing signal components. The detected sync signal level is compared with a desired value or range of values. If the detected sync signal level is not at the desired level or is outside the desired range, the count of a counter is incremented or decremented accordingly. The count of the counter is converted to an analog voltage which is applied to the gain-controlled signal source to control the level of the analog signal applied to the A/D converter. The analog voltage may also be combined with a control voltage produced by an analog peak detector, which detects the level of the input signal to the A/D converter, to produce a composite gain control signal.

Abstract: A controllable shift matrix has inputs and outputs and is responsive to bits of an input signal word X(n) at the inputs of ascending order from a least significant bit position to a most significant bit position for controllably producing an output (weighted X(n) the outputs in which the input signal bits may occupy respectively different bit positions. The matrix comprises a plurality of sections (80-88) including at least one divide-by section (82) coupled between the inputs and outputs and including controlled switch means responsive to control signals (C1 ,C1) for selectively passing bits on divide-by input lines to divide-by output lines of the same order as said divide-by input line bit position, or transferring said divide-by input line bits to respective ones of said divide-by output lines which are more than one bit position lower in order than divide-by input line bit positions. A weighting function circuit comprises two such matrices which commonly receive the input word for shifting it in different ways, and a combining circuit for combining the shifted words produced by the matrices to produce a weighted word (Fig. 2 not shown). A digital filter comprises the weighting function circuit allowing reduced complexity and higher speed in coefficient multiplication.

Abstract: A television horizontal deflection system and a switched-mode power supply are provided which share a single sawtooth waveform generator for the generation of delayed deflection signals and delayed power supply gating signals, respectively. The sawtooth waveform generator has an input coupled to receive pulses which are maintained in phase and frequency synchronism with the sync pulses of the video signal. The sawtooth waveform is applied to a comparator in the horizontal deflection system where it is compared with a D.C. voltage resulting from the phase comparison of the sync and flyback pulses to determine the time of delayed generation of the succeeding horizontal deflection signals. The sawtooth waveform is also applied to a comparator in the power supply to determine the time of delayed generation of the succeeding gating signals for the SCR or like device. By selecting a time constant for the phase adjustment between sync and flyback in the deflection system which is smaller (i.e., faster) than the time constant of the regulated supply, the phase differences between sync and flyback are so quickly compensated for by the deflection system that their effects on the regulated supply are minimized.

Abstract: A controlled oscillator having an anti-resonant tank circuit tuned by an admixture of an adjustable portion of quadrature current responsive to oscillation signals appearing across the tank circuit. The adjustable portion of quadrature current is provided by adjustably splitting a fixed quadrature current into first and second fractions in a current splitter in response to a control signal, then subtracting the first fraction from the second to obtain a difference current which is applied to the tank circuit.

Abstract: Cascaded multipliers are coupled to a source providing a periodic sawtooth deflection waveform, the amplitude of which varies with variations in the high voltage applied to an accelerating anode of a kinescope. The sawtooth signal is cubed by the cascaded multipliers and multiplied by the inverse square of a voltage which varies with changes in the kinescope anode potential. The system thus incorporates S-correction and means for correcting the deflection waveform to compensate for changes in the high voltage supplied to the kinescope anode.

Abstract: 1317625 Variable reactance circuits, transistor amplifiers RCA CORPORATION 30 Sept 1970 [1 Oct 1969] 46438/70 Headings H3R and H3T A reactance, variable in response to a control signal comprises: a reactance 10; a circuit 20 for sensing the current through the reactance; and an amplifier 30, 40, having a gain dependent on the magnitude of the control signal 25, and being arranged to amplify the output current from the sensing circuit 20 and feed it back in parallel with the reactive element. The reactive element 10 may be the inductance of the resonant circuit 10, 12 of an oscillator which includes a positive feedback amplifier 14. A similar control circuit may be employed to vary the capacitive reactance, the two control signals being applied in push-pull, Fig. 4, (not shown). As shown, the output stage 40 of the current amplifier comprises a splitter, whose gain is varied by the control signal. In a modification, Fig. 5, (not shown), two splitters (40a, 40b), each controlled by push-pull control signals, are connected in cascade. Current amplifier and sensing circuit.-Variation in current at point 18 varies the current through resistor 228, the resulting change in potential across the resistor being fed back via transistor 234 to the base of transistor 224, thus varying the conductivity of transistor 224 to maintain the current through transistor 222 constant. The varying base potential of transistor 224 is also applied to the base of transistor 310 to produce a collector current I s which has a relationship to the magnitude of the collector current of transistor 224 in proportion to the relative base-emitter areas of the two transistors. As shown the collector current of 310 is one fourth that of 224 by virtue of the quadruple emitters of the latter. Transistors 310, 224, may be thermally coupled. In a modification, Fig. 3, (not shown), the circuit 20 is replaced by a single common emitter stage.
