    Abstract: A signal processing apparatus includes a scaling device for increasing the magnitude of a signal from a source to better use the dynamic range of processing apparatus, and to reduce the effects of noise and error sources. This is particularly useful in a television receiver where the maximum magnitude of the (B-Y) chrominance signal component of a composite video signal is smaller than that of the (R-Y) chrominance signal component. To provide improved resolution of the (B-Y) signal components, a gain scaling arrangement increases the magnitude of the (B-Y) signal component to more closely approximate that of the (R-Y) signal component. In a TV receiver having digital signal processing apparatus, a digital multiplier scales the digitized (B-Y) signal component thereby to reduce the errors inherent in processing digital data having a limited number of bits, especially where such processing includes rounding or truncating operations which can introduce additional errors or decrease resolution.

A control signal developed by the beam current limiter network, otherwise applied to the video signal path, is decoupled from the video signal path during the white level measuring intervals to prevent distortion of the white level control function.

    Abstract: A switched mode power supply for a remote controlled television receiver incorporates a degaussing circuit having a relay that is required to be energized in order to permit operation of the degaussing circuit. Power to energize the relay is derived from a power supply switch transistor protection circuit which removes residual stored energy from the power transformer primary winding. This stored energy is used to charge a capacitor during the time the switch transistor is nonconductive. The capacitor is discharged to provide current to energize the deguassing circuit relay in order to permit ac mains current to flow through the degaussing coil.

    Abstract: In a television receiver regulated power supply that is responsive to the state of a remote on/off command signal, the AC mains supply voltage is connected to the input terminals of a bridge rectifier through the mechanical switch portion of an on/off relay. A remote control circuit energizes the relay coil to close the mechanical switch upon receipt of the on-state command signal. The bridge rectifier then develops an unregulated DC voltage that is applied to a high frequency inverter for developing an alternating polarity input voltage. The alternating polarity input voltage is applied to a self-regulating or ferroresonant power supply circuit to produce regulated output voltages for various television receiver load circuits such as the ultor load and the horizontal deflection circuit. During a fault operating condition of the self-regulating circuit wherein the output voltages would tend to increase excessively, a protection circuit detects the occurrence of the fault operating condition and disables the remote control circuit to deenergize the relay coil and open the mechanical on/off switch. Operation of the self-regulating circuit stops to thereby deenergize the television receiver load circuits.

    Abstract: The primary winding of a high leakage inductance transformer is coupled to a source of alternating input voltage to develop alternating polarity output voltages across tightly coupled secondary windings, including a high voltage winding of the transformer. Various DC supply voltages, including the ultor voltage, are derived from the secondary winding output voltages. To regulate the secondary winding output voltages, a ferroresonant circuit comprising a capacitor and a saturable reactor is coupled as a load circuit to one of the transformer secondary windings. When the saturable reactor magnetically saturates during each half cycle of the alternating polarity output voltage, a circulating current is generated and flows between the saturable reactor and the capacitor. To enhance the power supply efficiency and reduce the temperature rise within the magnetizable core of the saturable reactor, the parameters of the transformer and ferroresonant load circuit are selected so as to generate a relatively low amplitude circulating current. To improve output voltage regulation when a low amplitude circulating current is developed, a compensating drive winding is provided that is magnetically tightly coupled with the primary winding of the high leakage transformer. The compensating drive winding is coupled in series with the saturable reactor winding across the capacitor and polarized relative to the capacitor coupled transformer secondary so as to oppose the tendency of the output voltage amplitude or half-cycle volt-second area to vary with variations in input voltage amplitude.
