    Abstract: A patient interface for delivering breathable gas to a patient, the patient interface comprising a sealing portion including a nose tip engagement portion 452 adapted to form a seal with the patient’s nose tip, an upper lip engagement portion 462 adapted to form a seal with the patient’s upper lip and/or base of the patient’s nares, and nostril engagement flaps adapted to form a seal with the patient’s nares, and a supporting portion supporting and adding rigidity to at least one of the nose tip engagement portion, the upper lip engagement portion, and the nostril engagement flaps. The supporting portion provides different degrees of rigidity to each of the nose tip engagement portion, the upper lip engagement portion, and the nostril engagement flaps. The nostril engagement flaps are configured to be flexed outwardly by the patient’s nose when the sealing portion is mounted on the patient’s face.

    Abstract: A mask system including a cushion adapted to seal with a face of a patient is disclosed. The mask could be used in a CPAP system. In one form an unobtrusive full-face masks system is provided which is comfortable and has a wide fit range. The mask system is constructed and arranged to be used on the person without requiring a forehead support. The mask system including a cushion, said cushion adapted to form a seal on the face of the patient in a nasal bridge region of the face, a side of nose region of the face, a mouth corner region of the face and a lip region of the face. The cushion is also forms a seal on the nasal bone of the nasal bridge region of a face below the nasion and above the cartilage of the nose. The cushion also includes at least one lateral stabilising portion adapted to direct a force against the side of the nose in the region of the nasal bridge. The cushion may include a sealing structure and a supporting structure. The supporting structure may include gaps or spacing in a nasal bridge region and/or a lip region. In the region of the mask at the side of the nose an inner wall has a cross-sectional profile that is a J-shape (Section B-B Fig. 127a) and in a region of the mask at the corner of the mouth the inner wall has a cross-sectional profile that is a sickle shape (Section I-I Fig. 127e).

    Abstract: A cushion for a patient interface that delivers breathable gas to a patient, the cushion comprising: a base wall (28); and a face contacting portion (14) including a nasal bridge region (16), a pair of side of nose regions (17), a pair of upper cheek regions (18), a pair of a lower cheek regions (19), and a chin region (20). The face contacting portion is adapted to form a continuous seal on the patient’s face in use. The portion of the cushion between the face contacting portion and the base wall of the cushion is structured and / or arranged to provide a spring configuration in the nasal bridge region, a spring configuration in the pair of side of nose regions, and a spring configuration in the chin region. In use, the spring configuration(s) permit displacement of the respective face contacting portions from an initial position in response to a frame force applied to the cushion, and resiliently move the respective face contacting portions towards the initial position when the frame force is released. The spring configuration in the nasal bridge region is more flexible than the spring configuration in the pair of side of nose regions. The spring configuration in the chin region is more flexible than the spring configuration in the pair of side of nose regions.

The nostril engagement flaps are cantilevered from the supporting wall so that the nostril engagement flaps flex outwardly away from each other when engaged with the patient’s nose. At least one of the headgear and the supporting wall is configured to limit the extent to which the nostril engagement flaps flex and prevents an angle between the nostril engagement flaps from reaching 180º
