Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the bromination of the aromatic ring of phenols or substituted phenols containing ethylenic chains. The process is characterised in that a compound of formula: in which n is 0 or an integer, R1 and R2 are identical or different and represent a hydrogen, a halogen, or an alkyl, alkoxy, acyloxy or formyl radical, it being possible for R1 and R2 to form a methylenedioxy bridge, and R3 and R4 are identical or different and can be hydrogens or alkyl radicals, is reacted with a reagent comprising at least one N-Br bond.
