    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a digital recording magnetic tape in which the noise hardly occurs at reading with an MR head, the picture quality is excellent, and the track pitch is ≤6 μm without increasing dropouts, and which is not wearable and has the satisfied run/durable property, and to provide a polyester film for a magnetic recording medium effective for this purpose. SOLUTION: This polyester film for the magnetic recording medium is composed in such a manner that a coating film containing fine particles and an organic compound is formed on a surface A of the polyester film, and diameters of protrusions on the fine surface of the coating film surface are 25-60 nm and the number of them is 3-100 million/mm 2 , and also the number of protrusions on the fine surface is ≤3000/mm 2 .
