Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent flattening of a cylindrical section, increase rigidity to bending, improve bending strength of a tubular body and lessen weight by providing at least parts of axial direction reinforcing fiber and/or circumferential direction reinforcing fiber with profile section fiber. CONSTITUTION:Profile section fiber composed of carbon fiber as its material is used at least for parts of one or both of axial direction reinforcing fiber 1 and/or circumferential direction reinforcing fiber 2 as reinforcing fiber. The sectional secondary moment of single fiber of the profile section fiber is larger than that of a round section fiber to increase the strength to bending. The single fiber section of the profile section fiber is preferably the multi-foliate type of 3-5 foliage leaves, and from the viewpoint of improving the bending strength and bonding properties with resin and being hard to give damage to the multi-foliage shape, the sectional profile degree should preferably be 1.2-3.0.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable to efficiently electrolytically treat the surface of carbon fibers do provide the carbon fibers having improved adhesivity to matrix resins by disposing an anode tank as a non-contact electrode, only on the feeding side of the carbon fibers traveling in an electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:When a carbon fiber strand produced from e.g. acrylonitrile fibers and having a strand strength of 528kg/mm , a strand elastic modulus of >=30t/mm , a filament number of 12000, a unit weight of 0.44g/m and a crystal size LC of 24Angstrom is electrolytically oxidized, an anode tank as a non-contact electrode is disposed only on the feeding side of the carbon fiber strand traveling in the electrolyte, thereby permitting to prevent the reduction reaction of the carbon fiber strand and efficiently electrolytically oxidize the surface of the carbon fibers to improve the adhesivity thereof to matrix resins. The method allows to efficiently oxidize the high elastic carbon fibers and to reduce the generation of fuzz on the operation and the winding of the carbon fibers on a roll.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a void-free dense graphite fiber having high elastic modulus and excellent mechanical strength, by adding a graphitizing catalyst to an acrylonitrile polymer, melt-spinning the polymer at a specific temperature and calcining the product. CONSTITUTION:An acrylonitrile polymer composed mainly of 70-95mol% of acrylonitrile and 5-30mol% of a monomer copolymerizable therewith [e.g. (meth) acrylic acid] is added with preferably 0.5-20wt.% of a graphitizing catalyst (preferably a compound of Si, Ca, Mg or B, especially a boron compound). The mixture is subjected to melt-spinning at a melting temperature of 160-250 deg.C (preferably 180-240 deg.C), flame-resisting treatment and carbonization treatment (preferably at 300-1000 deg.C) to obtain the objective fiber.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce the yarn tension below a yield stress of a load-elongation curve and prevent the occurrence of fluff or sag, by changing the direction or collecting a fiber bundle still in a swollen state spun by a wet or dry jet-wet spinning process with a specific guide. CONSTITUTION:The curvature radius of a part to be in contact with a yarn still in a swollen state of a guide used therefor is 0.1-1.5mm, preferably 0.5-1.0mm for the running direction of the yarn. The guide frictional force (ratio of the tension on the outlet side to that on the inlet side) can be reduced to reduce the tension of the yarn to be taken off below the yield stress of a load-elongation curve in the swollen state of the yarn.

In the above dry and wet spinning apparatus, the spinning dope is supplied to the spinneret 2 by a bendable tube 6 to enable the displacement of the spinneret 2 between the spinning position and the spinneret-correction position above the spinning position.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide tow prepreg giving little disturbance in orientation of a reinforced fiber and generating little void during molding, giving high occurrence rate of tensile strength of the reinforced fiber, and capable of forming moldings of high strength, and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: This tow prepreg has following characters: 1) the thickest part of any cross section perpendicular to fiber lies in a distance range of 20-80% from an end of the total width of the tow prepreg; 2) total width of the tow prepreg is 2-20 mm; 3) the ratio (w/t) of the total width (w) (mm) to the thickness (t) (mm) at the thickest part of any cross section perpendicular to fiber is 3-30; and 4) any cross section perpendicular to fiber becomes smaller from the region where there is the thickest part to the both ends. In a manufacturing method of the tow prepreg, first. a default amount of a resin is attached on a strand extended to width direction, and it is heated until the viscosity of the resin becomes not higher than 500 poise to impregnate the resin in the strand, then cooled until the viscosity of the attached resin becomes not lower than 5000 poise, and rolled on a bobbin.
