Abstract:
The use of certain amidoamines to disinfect contact lenses and preserve ophthalmic compositions is described. Ophthalmic compositions containing these compounds as disinfecting agents or preservatives are also described. The amidoamines utilized in the present invention have potent antibacterial and antifungal activity, and are chemically compatible with inorganic ions and other materials utilized in ophthalmic compositions.
Abstract:
Certain stable analogues of retinoic acid are found to be useful in the treatment of dry eye and related aliments, and skin disorders such as acne, psoriasis, skin aging and wound healing. These compounds are much more soluble than retinoic acid, and may therefore be formulated in standard.
Abstract:
Pharmaceutical compositions useful in ophthalmic surgery are described. The compositions include one or more non-steroidal antiinflammatory drugs, and are useful for preventing or treating ophthalmic inflammation and other conditions associated with ophthalmic surgery. Methods of using the compositions in connection with ophthalmic surgical procedures are also described.
Abstract:
Disclosed are novel compositions comprising mixtures useful to treat the metabolically impaired and to improve patient compliance. Included are non-racemic mixtures of certain chiral spirofluorenehydantoins. Methods of use to treat glucose toxicity and complications arising from diabetes mellitus are also disclosed.
Abstract:
Topical ophthalmic compositions comprising 1-(2-ethoxyethyl)-2-(4-methyl-1-homopiperazinyl)-benzimidazole and its ophthalmically acceptable acid addition salts have been found to be useful in treating allergic conjunctivitis and related ailments.
Abstract:
An improved pharmaceutical composition useful in ophthalmic surgery is described. The composition includes a mydriatic agent, such as epinephrine in an acidic solution. The acidic solution preferably also contains glutathione. The composition is preferably formulated as a two-part solution, with the mydriatic agent being included in a relatively small volume, acid solution, and one or more electrolytes being included in a neutral, buffered solution having a relatively large volume.
Abstract:
Irrigating solutions with thiol or disulfide containing compounds or precursors to cystine or cysteine in physiologically acceptable salt solutions are described. The irrigating solutions are useful during surgery, particularly ophthalmic, neural, cardiovascular or otic surgery, to stabilize the affected tissue. Methods for their preparation and use are described.
Abstract:
Combinations of at least one cellulosic polymer and at least one carboxy vinyl polymer have an unexpectedly high viscosity. Compositions containing these polymeric combinations have a number of applications, such as in pharmaceuticals, especially in the field of ophthalmics. Topical ophthalmic compositions containing these polymeric combinations are contemplated for the relief of the symptoms of dry eye syndrome.
Abstract:
An improved system for rapid disinfection of contact lenses in a convenient and reliable manner is disclosed in which a series of oxidation-reduction reactions are employed. This improved system includes compositions as well as methods of use.
Abstract:
Pharmaceutical compositions useful in the treatment of ophthalmic inflammation and methods of treating ophthalmic inflammation with those compositions ar disclosed. The compositions contain a combination of a glucocorticoid and an angiostatic steroid. The angiostatic steroid substantially prevents any significant increases in intraocular pressure which might otherwise be experienced by the patient as a side effect of the glucocorticoid component of the compositions. The therapeutic interaction of the two components therefore allows the potent anti-inflammatory properties of the glucocorticoids to be utilized without fear of elevating intraocular pressure.
