Abstract:
Radiation scattering is one of the main contributors to the uncertainty of near infrared (NIR) measurements. Enhanced absorption-measurement accuracy for NIR sensors is achieved by using a combination of NIR spectroscopy and time-of-flight techniques to select photons that are the result of a given mean free path within a moving sample target. By measuring absorption as a function of path length or by windowing signals that are attributable to excessive scattering of NIR radiation within the sample, this technique affords the calculation of more accurate and more universal calibrations. The NIR sensor employs short or ultra-short laser pulses to create NIR that is directed to the moving sample and emerging radiation is detected over time. Windowing effectively truncates non-contributing measurements.
Abstract:
There is provided a test method for analysing a body fluid in which a test tape is used in a test device in order to successively provide analytical test fields stored on the test tape, wherein body fluid is applied by a user to the test field provided at a time and the said test field is photometrically scanned using a measuring unit of the device to record measurement signals. In order to increase the measurement reliability, it is proposed that a control value is determined from a time-dependent and/or wavelength-dependent change in the measurement signals and that the measurement signals are processed as valid or discarded as erroneous depending on the control value.

Abstract:
A standard test specimen for optical emission spectrochemical analysis is prepared by molding into the specimen body finely divided particles consisting essentially of the metal or metal alloy to be analyzed without melting the same and preferably by plastic deformation of such particles. The resultant specimen is homogeneous throughout and stable in quality so that accurate analysis of any of its elements is possible and the suitability of the test material for a given product can be accurately predicted.
Abstract:
Calibration of optical computing devices is achieved using mapping functions that map real detector responses to simulated detector responses which are simulated using high-resolution spectra of traceable optical filters and optical computing device characteristics.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method for monitoring a control parameter of a polymerization reaction mixture in heterogeneous phase comprising the following steps: (a) acquiring at least one NIR reflectance spectrum of said mixture; (b) calculating a value of said control parameter by means of a calibration curve which correlates the NIR reflectance spectrum with the values of said control parameter measured with a reference measurement method. The present invention also relates to an apparatus for implementing said method.

Abstract:
Described herein is a method, system and computer program for analyzing a colorimetric assay that includes obtaining an image of the assay, optionally correcting for ambient lighting conditions in the image, converting the intensity data for at least one of the red channel, the green channel, or the blue channel to a first data point, recalling a predetermined standardized curve, comparing the first data point with the standardized curve, and identifying the value for the assay parameter from the standardized curve.
Abstract:
An apparatus for the calibration and quality assurance of a multichannel spectrophotometer, particularly an ELISA spectrophotometer, comprises film selectively exposed in the presence of a color to produce a series of filters (columns 3-10) having a known first color and linearly increasing optical density. The response of the spectrophotometer is measured against the known color and linearly increasing optical density. Additional filters (columns 11-12) of at least one additional color permit checking the color response of the spectrophotometer. An algorithm determines whether the response conforms to predetermined conditions. An output is produced to provide a record of the calibration and quality assurance of the spectrophotometer. The invention has particular utility for conducting calibration and quality assurance of ELISA spectrophotometers used in clinical laboratory screening for infectious diseases, such as Hepatitis B and the AIDS viruses.
