Abstract:
A method is provided for determining whether an output signal from a magnetic railway wheel detector is produced by the actual passage of a wheel over the transducer. The output signal is compared with an amplitude threshold value and the time period between the zero crossing point and the time at which the signal attains amplitude threshold is compared with a time threshold level. The thresholds are set as a function of the speed of the train. Unless the thresholds are exceeded the output signal is disregarded.
Abstract:
A transducer having a field creating coil arrangement which produces a field having a field strength minimum, having a sensing coil positioned at that field strength minimum and responsive to changes in position of that minimum resulting from the proximity of an article to the field creating coil arrangement. By observing changes in the signal output of the sensing coil, information concerning the proximity of an article to the transducer is ascertained. Preferably the transducer includes a field disturbing means associated therewith for inducing a disturbance to the field created by the field creating coil so as to cause the sensing coil to operate by either simulating the disturbance of the field that would be caused by the proximity of an article or by changing the field while the article is present. Thus the transducer may be remotely checked as to its operation.

A system controlling apparatus wherein an array of sensors are used for detecting information and for providing signals indicative of information concerning passing articles such as presence of an article at a sensor, number of articles passing, the direction of passing and the velocity of passing. Signal processing apparatus is comparing the signals with pre-determined parameter information as to the system and for providing control to the system in response to detecting equality and for providing overriding control to the system in response to detecting inequality. Each of the sensors is self-checking during the period an article is not present. The information detected by the sensors is converted to a simple binary high or low signal and such binary signals from all sensors are compared in a "look-up" table comparator arranged to recognize a particular pattern of highs and lows at its input and to provide an output to the system if it is in accordance with a pre-determined pattern corresponding to the pre-determined parameter information of the system.

A transmitter device for a sensor device detects a magnetic field change caused by an object approaching or moving past the sensor device, in particular by a wheel of a rail vehicle. The transmitter device has at least two alternating-current-fed transmitter oscillating circuits. In order to implement error disclosure of the sensor device in a particularly simple manner, the at least two transmitter oscillating circuits are formed in such a way that the resonance frequencies thereof are different from each other. A sensor device and a method for detecting a magnetic field change are also provided.

A device for automatically controlling a track-bound vehicle, particularly a magnetic levitation vehicle is described. The device comprises a drive and brake system (4), an additional brake (9), a stationary mounted travel computer (5) and data carriers (10) arranged along the guideway for the supply of status signals in the form of location, speed or travel direction signals. In accordance with the invention the device also comprises means (12, 29) which are arranged for safely stopping and/or starting the vehicle at or from preselected target stopping points (15) within the stopping zones (A) and which are so configured that an immediate decoupling of the vehicle from the drive and brake system (4) is effected when an impermissible travel status within the area of a stopping zone (A) is reached (FIG. 1).

A railroad car wheel transducer includes a coil positioned along a rail of a track. The presence of a wheel proximal to the coil causes basic electrical characteristics of the coil, such as its inductance and Q factor to change, which is sensed and used to generate a coil signal. A calibrating circuit monitors the coil characteristics to compensate for long term drifts.

The control system is of the kind in which vehicle passage is controlled by a token, and is particularly suitable for single track railways.According to the invention, such a system is electronic, and a central control and each vehicle in use in the system is provided with electronic transmitting and receiving equipment, by which an exclusive electronic token, or the like, is transmitted between the control and a designated vehicle, the arrangement being such that, only if the electronic token is issued to a vehicle, by simultaneous operation by the controller and vehicle operator, will that vehicle be authorized to proceed, said electronic token being withdrawn by the central control once the restricted section to which it relates has been traversed by said vehicle.
