Abstract: Use in cosmetic compositions for the hair, of a polymer (I) produced by radical polymerization of (i) at least one vinyl ester (II) of a 1-24C carboxylic acid in presence of (ii) a polyether compound (III) and optionally (iii) one or more other copolymerizable monomers (IV), then at least partial saponification of ester residues of (II). Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) cosmetic hair-treating compositions containing (I); and (b) (I) produced by using as (III), a polyether-containing silicone derivative (IIIa), a compound (IIIb) produced by reacting poly(ethyleneimine) with alkylene oxide, or homo- or co-polymers (IIIc) of ethylenically unsaturated polyether-containing compounds.

Abstract: Cationic polymers obtainable by free-radically initiated copolymerization of (a) from 60 to 99% by weight, based on the overall amount of all monomers, of a substituted or unsubstituted and quaternized or nonquaternized 1-vinylimidazole, (b) from 1 to 40% by weight of an acid which contains a polymerizable double bond, or of salts of such an acid, and (c) from 0 to 30% by weight of a further free-radically copolymerizable monomer, percentages by weight being based in each case on the overall amount of all monomers, and quaternization of the polymer if a nonquaternized 1-vinylimidazole was employed as monomer a) are used as active ingredients in cosmetic hair formulations such as shampoos.

Abstract: An oral composition and method for use thereof, comprising in an orally acceptable vehicle, an effective antiplaque amount of a noncationic antibacterial agent, and an anionic copolymer formed from monomers of which about 40 to about 90 % by weight are hydrophilic type capable of attachment to oral surfaces and about 10 to about 60 % by weight are of a hydrophobic type; such oral composition being effective in increasing the uptake of the antibacterial compound to dental tissue so as to enhance the therapeutic efficacy of the administered antibacterial compound.
