    Abstract: A method for increasing the effectiveness of the microbicide propiconazole , (see above formula) (RS)-1-2-[(2,4-dichlorophenyl)-2-propyl-1,3-dioxalan- 2ylmethyl]-1H-1,2,4-triazole, is described. In the method, propiconazole and a potentiator, an N-alkyl heterocyclic compound, its salt, or a mixture thereof, are applied to a substrate or aqueous system subject to the growth of microorganisms. The N-alkyl heterocyclic compound, its salt, or a mixture thereof is applied in an amoun t effective to increase the microbicidal activity of the microbicide. The N-alkyl heterocyclic compound has formula (I). The variable "n" ranges from 5 to 17, and the heterocyclic ring defined by (II) is a substituted or unsubstituted ring having four to eight members. Microbicidal compositions are described where propiconazole and an N-alkyl heterocyclic compound, its salt, or a mixture thereof are present in a combined amount effective to control the growth of at least one microorganism. Methods for controlling th e growth of microorganisms on various substrates and in various aqueous systems are also described. The combination of propiconazole and N-alkyl heterocyclic compound, its salt, or a mixture thereof is particularly useful as microbicidal in the leather industry, the lumber industry, the papermaking industry, the textile industry, the agricultural industry, and the coating industry, as we ll as in industrial process waters.

    Abstract: Se describe un metodo para aumentar la efectividad del microbicida propiconazol, (RS)-1- 2- [(2,4-diclorofenil)- 2-propil-1, 3-dioxalan- 2ilmetil?- 1H-1, 2, 4-triazol. En el metodo, se aplican propiconazol y un potenciador, un compuesto N-alquilo heterociclico, su sal, o una mezcla de los mismos, a un sustrato o sistema acuoso sujeto al crecimiento de microorganismos. El compuesto N-alquilo heterociclico, su sal o una mezcla de los mismos se aplica en una cantidad efectiva para aumentar la actividad microbicida del microbicida. El compuesto N-alquilo heterociclico tiene la formula (I). La variable "n" varia de 5 a 17 el anillo heterociclico definido por (II) es un anillo sustituido o no sustituido que tiene de cuatro a ocho miembros. Se describen composiciones microbicidas, en donde el propiconazol y un compuesto N-alquilo heterociclico, su sal o una mezcla de los mismos estan presentes en una cantidad combinada efectiva para controlar el crecimiento de al menos un microorganismo. Tambien se describen metodos para controlar el crecimiento de microorganismos sobre diversos sustratos y en diversos sistemas acuosos. La combinacion de propiconazol y el compuesto N-alquilo heterociclico, su sal, o una mezcla de los mismos es particularmente util como microbicida en la industria del cuero, la industria de la madera aserrada, la industria para hacer papel, la industria textil, la industria agricola y la industria de recubrimientos, asi como en aguas de proceso industrial.
