Abstract:
Methods for controlling the growth of bacteria in ethanol fermentation systems with antibiotic alternatives, which can be nonoxidizing biocides, stabilized oxidizers, or any combinations thereof, are described. As an option, a process or composition of the present invention can include one or more polycyclic antibacterial peptides. The methods can provide improvements, such as increased ethanol yields with minimal carryover of biocide into co-products of the processes.
Abstract:
Methods of preventing or inhibiting putrefaction, degradation, and/or deterioration of a surface of wet animal hide or skin are described. The method can include applying a composition containing at least one minimum risk fungicide to the surface or to a solid, liquid or gas that comes in contact with the surface. Treated hides or skin are further described.
Abstract:
Animal skins, pelts, and hides are protected from putrefaction, degradation or deterioration caused by metalloproteinases such as collagenase by applying at least one metalloproteinase inhibitor to a fluid in which the animal skin or hide is dipped or soaked, or applying at least one metalloproteinase inhibitor to a solid surface that directly or indirectly comes into contact with the animal skin or hide.
Abstract:
Microbicidal compositions including (a) an ionene polymer and (b) 2,4,4'-trichloro-2'-hydroxydiphenyl ether are described. The ionene polymer and 2,4,4'-trichloro-2'-hydroxydiphenyl ether can be present in a synergistically effective amount to control the growth of at least one microorganism. Methods for controlling the growth of microorganisms with the compositions are also disclosed.
Abstract:
Methods for controlling the growth of bacteria in ethanol fermentation systems with antibiotic alternatives, namely stabilized oxidizers optionally in combination with nonoxidizing biocides, are described. The methods can provide improvements, such as increased ethanol yields with minimal carryover of biocide into co-products of the processes.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method of preventing or inhibiting putrefaction, degradation, and/or deterioration of a surface of wet, tanned animal hide or skin, the method comprising applying a composition consisting of sodium lauryl sulfate and/or thyme oil and optionally at least one inert ingredient to the surface or to a solid, liquid or gas that comes in contact with the surface, in an effective amount to inhibit or prevent putrefaction, degradation, and/or deterioration of said surface, wherein the composition is applied in an amount of from about 0.25 to about 100 pounds (about 0.1 to about 45.4 kg) of said composition per about 3,000 pounds (about 1360 kg) of wet, tanned hides or skins.
Abstract:
