    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a pigment ink capable of forming an image excellent in water resistance, light resistance, and character quality and capable of being stably delivered from a recording head irrespectively of the printing environment by adding self-dispersible carbon black particles having at least one type of hydrophilic groups on the surface and calcium to an aqueous medium. SOLUTION: It is desirable that the hydrophilic groups are bonded to the surfaces of carbon black particles through atomic groups. The atomic group is exemplified by a 1 or 2C linear or branched alkylene, a (substituted) phenylene or a (substituted) naphthylene. The hydrophilic group is exemplified by-COOM,- SO3M,-PO3HM,-SO2NH2, -SO2NHCOR,-NH3+, formula I or formula II. In the formulae, Ms are each independently H, an alkali metal, ammonium or the like; R is a 1-12C alkyl, a (substituted) phenyl or a (substituted) naphthyl. It is desirable that the calcium exists in the form of a calcium ion.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a water-based pigment ink excellent in long-term preservation stability, especially without causing clogging of a nozzle when carrying out ink jet recording and excellent in discharge stability and fixing resistance after stop and to provide both a method by which a high-grade image good in fastness can stably be recorded and a recording device. SOLUTION: This water-based pigment ink comprises a coloring material comprising a self-dispersible type carbon black in which at least one kind of hydrophilic group is bound directly or through other atomic groups to the surface of a carbon black and a humectant selected from the group consisting of saccharides represented by the formula CH2 (OH)-(HCOH)n -CH2 OH [(n) denotes an integer of 2-4], derivatives of the saccharides and sugar alcohols, an aqueous medium comprising water and a water-soluble organic solvent. The method for recording and the recording device use the water-based pigment ink.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve feathering resistance and bleeding resistance by sequentially adhering ink on a material to be recorded from ink containing more surfactant in an ink recording method for forming a secondary color image by superposing at least two types of color inks. SOLUTION: When electric signal information is applied to aluminum electrodes 17-1, 17-2 of heads of a multi-head in an ink jet recorder, a region (n) of a heating head 15 is heated, and ink 21 in contact with the region is flowed toward a material 25 to be recorded. In this case, to form a color image by using a plurality of color inks, the plurality of the inks contain surfactants of different contents from each other. When the two types of the color inks are superposed to form a secondary color in, on the material 25, the inks are sequentially stuck on the material 25 from the ink containing more content of the surfactant to form the image.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a pigment ink which can form a picture excellent in fastness such as water-resistance, light resistance, etc., and in letter properties, and has the higher jet efficiency when applied to recording of an ink jet by incorporating a self-dispersing carbon black, an aqueous medium and a silicon compound. SOLUTION: As a coloring material, a self-dispersing type carbon in which at least one hydrophilic group is bound on a surface of carbon black through other atomic group is used. Both anionic and cationic group are used as the hydrophilic one. The anionic hydrophilic group contains, for example, -COOM, -SO3M, -PO3HM (wherein M is H, an alkaline metal, ammonium or the like) or the like. The cationic hydrophilic group contains -SO2N+H3, -N+R3, a group of the formula (wherein R is a 1-12C alkyl, a phenyl or a naphthyl) or the like. The above other atomic group contains, for example, a 1-12C alkylene, a phenylene, a naphthylene or the like. As a silicon compound, a silicon surfactant is preferable, for example.
