Abstract: Oligomeric organosilicon compounds consisting of ethylene-polysulfane chains in which each ethylene unit is substituted with one triorganosilylalkyl group. Oligomeric organosilicon compounds of formula (I): R -R = H, 1-4C alkyl, alkoxy, haloalkyl or haloalkoxy, phenyl, aryl or aralkyl; Z = 0-6C alkylidene which may be attached to either of the two carbon atoms, with the free valency taken up by hydrogen; x = 1-6; n = 1-150. Independent claims are also included for: (a) a process for the production of (I) by reacting compounds of formula (II) with compounds of formula MSH or M2Sy, or with M2S and sulfur,at 20-150 degrees C and normal pressure or at up to 6 bar, optionally in presence of solvent and/or catalysts; (b) oligomeric organosilicon compounds (I) obtained by this process; (c) rubber mixtures containing (I); (d) a process for the production of rubber mixtures using rubber, other filler(s) and compounds (I); and (e) molded products obtained from these rubber mixtures. X = halogen; M = a metal ion; y = 2-6 (statistical average) The full definitions are given in the DEFINITION (Full Definitions) Field.

Abstract: Bonding smooth surfaces of 2 solids together using organo-silicon compound comprises providing both surfaces with a mono-molecular film of a bis(trialkoxysilyl)alkyldi- to hexa-sulfane (I) and bringing the surfaces together. Bonding the smooth surface of 2 solids together using organo-silicon compounds comprises providing both surfaces with a mono-molecular film of a bis(trialkoxysilyl)alkyl di- to hexa-sulfane of formula (I) and bringing the surfaces together. Sy((CH2)xSi(OR)3)2 (I) R = methyl, ethyl or propyl x = 1 - 4 y = 2 - 6 An Independent claim is also included for a composite structure comprising 2 solids bonded in this way.

Abstract: Aluminum oxide dispersion, which is stable in a pH range 5 from 5 to 9 and has an aluminum oxide content of at least 40 wt. %, obtainable by dispersing pyrogenically produced aluminum oxide particles in an aqueous phase, wherein one or several at least dibasic hydroxycarboxylic acids present dissolved in the dispersion and at least one salt of a 10 dialkali metal hydrogen phosphate and/or alkali metal dihydrogen phosphate are added to the aqueous phase each mutually independently in a quantity of 0.3-3×10-6 mol/m2 of aluminum oxide specific surface area.

Abstract: Process for the production of an aqueous dispersion of pyrogenically produced metal oxide and metalloid oxide powders with a BET surface area of between 5 and 600 m2/g, with a metal oxide or metalloid oxide content in the dispersion of between 5 and 25 wt. %, comprising the following steps: water, which is optionally adjusted to pH values of between 2 and 4 by adding acids, is circulated from a receiving vessel via a rotor/stator machine, and metal oxide or metalloid oxide powder is introduced, using a feed device, into the shear zone between the slots in the rotor teeth and the stator slots, continuously or discontinuously and with the rotor/stator machine running, in a quantity such that a predispersion with a solids content of between 20 and 40 wt. % results, and, after all the metal oxide powder or metalloid oxide powder has been added, the feed device closes and shearing continues in such a way that the shear rate is in the range of between 10000 and 40000 s-1, and then, by dilution, the predispersion is adjusted to the desired solids content of the dispersion while maintaining the dispersing conditions.
