Abstract: Crystalline type-A zeolite powder having an average particle size of 8.5 to 9.0 .mu.m is produced by passing the components sodium tetrasilicate and alkali-metal aluminate liquor simultaneously into a reactor containing alkali metal aluminate liquor under defined conditions, followed by stirring. Further, alkali metal aluminate liquor is added first, whereupon further sodium-tetrasilicate solution is added. The crystalline zeolite A powder thus obtained is used as a phosphate substitute in detergents.

Abstract: To reduce the ammonia content in the product gas in the BMA process and thus to improve the yield the reaction gas mixture of this process is contacted with zeolites and the ammonia subsequently desorbed from the zoelites is preferably reused in the reaction stage. If the desorption is carried out with a scavenging gas similar to the hydrocarbon used in the reaction, then this mixture can be recycled directly to the BMA reactor. The amounts of ammonia heretofore lost from this process are thus utilized again in the process.
