Abstract: Various types and configurations of pump pods, heat-exchanger systems, and thermal/conductivity sensors are described above. Thermal/conductivity sensors can be used in a wide variety of applications including but not limited to thermal/conductivity measurements of fluids and thermal/conductivity measurements in the context of heat-exchanger systems. Heat-exchanger systems may be used in a wide variety of applications to heat or cool fluids and are not limited to use with pump pods and thermal/conductivity sensors.

Abstract: A reciprocating positive displacement pumping system has a rigid chamber wall to which a flexible membrane is attached defining a pumping chamber. An inlet and outlet allow liquid flow. A rigid limit structure limits the movement of the membrane and the maximum volume of the pumping chamber defining an actuation chamber. An actuation port through which a fluid under positive or negative pressure can communicate with the actuation chamber is configured to connect to a positive pressure fluid reservoir and a negative pressure fluid reservoir through a valving mechanism for controlling the flow of control fluid between the actuation chamber and each of the reservoirs. An actuation chamber pressure transducer measures the pressure of the actuation chamber and a controller integrates pressure information from the actuation chamber pressure transducer over time during a stroke to detect an aberrant liquid flow condition.

Abstract: A peristaltic pump is disclosed. The peristaltic pump comprises a tube platen; and a plunger (see 3091, figure 277) configured to actuate toward the tube platen (3022). An end of the plunger has a rounded end and a bottom of the tube platen has a generally U shape that provides a radial gap between the plunger and the tube platen about equal to two to three times a wall thickness of an infusion tube. The rounded shapes of the plunger tip and tube platen avoid compressing the walls of the infusion line (3210), thereby reducing the compressive load on the plunger (see also paragraph [00943]).

Abstract: A peristaltic pump, and related system method are provided. The peristaltic pump includes a cam shaft, first and second pinch-valve cams, first and second pinch-valve cam followers, a plunger cam, a plunger-cam follower, a tube receiver, and a spring-biased plunger. The first and second pinch-valve cams are coupled to the cam shaft. The first and second pinch-valve cam followers each engage the first and second pinch-valve cams, respectively. The plunger cam is coupled to the cam shaft. The plunger-cam follower engages the plunger cam. The tube receiver is configured to receive a tube. The spring-biased plunger is coupled to the plunger-cam follower such that the expansion of the plunger cam along a radial angle intersecting the plunger-cam follower as the cam shaft rotates pushes the plunger cam follower towards the plunger and thereby disengages the spring-biased plunger from the tube. A spring coupled to the spring-biased plunger biases the spring-biased plunger to apply the crushing force to the tube.

Abstract: A peristaltic pump and a method of operating an infusion pump are disclosed. The peristaltic pump comprises, a pump housing, a door pivotally coupled to the pump housing having a platen disposed on an inner portion of the door, a cam-follower shaft disposed within the housing, a cam shaft disposed approximately parallel with the cam-follower shaft, a first cam disposed on the cam shaft to rotate with the cam shaft, a first cam follower pivotally coupled to the cam-follower shaft, the first cam follower having an active end configured to actuate toward the door when closed against the housing, the first cam follower also having a follower end configured to engage with the first cam, a second cam disposed on the cam shaft to rotate with the cam shaft, a second cam follower pivotally coupled to the cam-follower shaft, the second cam follower having an active end configured to actuate toward the door when closed against the housing, the second cam follower also having a follower end configured to engage with the second cam, a third cam disposed on the cam shaft to rotate with the cam shaft, wherein the third cam is disposed between the first and second cams on the cam shaft, a third cam follower pivotally coupled to the cam-follower shaft, the third cam follower having an elongated active end which is elongated relative to at least one of the first and second cam follower active ends and configured to actuate toward the platen when the door is closed against the housing, the third cam follower also having a follower end configured to engage with the third cam, and a spring coupled to the third cam follower to bias the follower of the third cam follower against the third cam. The third cam follower and third cam are configured such that as the elongated active end actuates away from the platen, the third cam actuates the third cam follower away from the cam shaft.

Abstract: A prosthetic arm apparatus including a plurality of segments that provide a user of the prosthetic arm apparatus with substantially the same movement capability and function as a human arm. The segments are connectable to one another and connectable to a prosthetic support apparatus that may be adorned by the user. Each segment of the plurality of segments provides a portion of the movement capability, enabling the plurality of connected segments connected to the harness mount to provide substantially the same movement capability as that lacking in the user. A dynamic support apparatus for supporting the prosthetic arm apparatus has a frame, a dynamic interface, a temperature control mechanism, and a control system. The dynamic support apparatus has a control system that is operably connected to the dynamic interface and controls the dynamic interface to change its geometry.

Abstract: A sensor apparatus and sensor apparatus system for use in conjunction with a cassette, including a disposable or replaceable cassette (3900). In some embodiments, the cassette (3900) includes a thermal well (5100) for permitting the sensing of various properties of a subject media. The thermal well (5100) includes a hollow housing of a thermally conductive material. In other embodiments, the cassette (3900) includes sensor leads (6016) for sensing of various properties of a subject media. The thermal well (5100) has an inner surface shaped so as to form a mating relationship with a sensing probe. The mating thermally couples the inner surface with a sensing probe. In some embodiments, the thermal well is located on a disposable portion and the sensing probe on a reusable portion.
