Abstract: A policy controlled bearer service for delivery of a service from an application function to a mobile terminal is set up. A terminal identity of the mobile terminal may be used to bind to applicable policy information when setting up the bearer service. This obviates the need to transmit specific binding information to the mobile terminal during application layer signaling for the purpose of policy controlled bearer service set-up. The terminal identity is registered in a register of a policy decision function along with policy identifying information. When a bearer service activation request is received from the mobile terminal the request is mapped to applicable policy information by means of the terminal identity and the matching registration in the register of the policy decision function.

Abstract: In a mobile communication system (T1) a time interval selection means (TIFM) in a network control means (RNC) determines a time interval and sends an indication about this time interval to a subscriber station (MS) in a time interval indication signal. A time interval signal determining means (TIFDM) in the subscriber station (MS) detects the time interval and an IF measurement means (IFMM) carries out inter-frequency/inter-system measurements in the detected time interval specified by the network control means (RNC). In this time interval the temporary reduction of the quality of service QoS on the communication connection (CC) is planed by the network control means (RNC). However, independent as to whether a delay-sensitive or loss-sensitive data transmission is carried out, the network control means (RNC) can make provisions in order to compensate the temporary reduction of the quality of service. Such procedure is superior to performing IF measurements in an idle time interval of a compressed time slot in which a temporary degradation of the quality of service must always be accepted due to a compressed mode of operation.

Abstract: A method for the handover of a terminal in a cellular communication system with base stations for providing connections to terminals in at least one cell (C) served by the base station is described. A terminal (UE) has a memory for identifying a measurement set of cells and measures quantities of the cells (C) identified in the measurement set. The decision (46, 72) of a handover of a terminal (UE) to a further connection is executed according to the measurement quantities. A classification (22, 62) is performed whether the execution of a handover is urgent. The number of cells (C) identified in the measurement set is reduced to a defined number if the handover is classified as urgent and the number of cells (C) identified is larger than the defined number. Devices and programs performing the method are also described.

Abstract: A method of ordering the delivery of a media stream to a client terminal coupled to an IP network is described. The method comprises identifying, at a user terminal (e.g. a mobile device), destination address information for the client terminal. The user terminal is authenticated to an application server of an IP Multimedia Subsystem network, and the destination address information is sent from the user terminal to the application server. The media stream is then sent to the client terminal. This enables the media to be delivered to the client terminal on the basis of the authentication of the user terminal.

A first client terminal arranged in use to communicate with an application server of an IP Multimedia Subsystem is disclosed comprising a receiver for receiving destination address information from a second client terminal; and a transmitter/processor/receiver for sending the destination address information to said application server, authenticating the first client terminal to the application server, and instructing the application server to arrange delivery of media to the second client terminal. A method of ordering a delivery of a media stream to a second client terminal coupled to an IP network is also disclosed.
