Abstract: A glass-fibre-reinforced cycloolefin polymer material comprises from 1 to 99% by weight of at least one cycloolefin polymer, in particular a norbornene-ethylene copolymer, and from 99 to 1% by weight of glass fibres. The absolute value for the refractive index difference (refractive index of glass of glass fibres minus refractive index of cycloolefin polymer) is at most 0.015 for each cycloolefin polymer, and the refractive index of the glass fibres is in the range from 1.510 to 1.560. The materials have good mechanical properties and good light transparency. The glass fibres employed preferably contain no sizes.

Abstract: Cycloolefin polymer molding composition of improved stability to chemical degradation. A cycloolefin polymer molding composition which comprises organophosphorus compounds of the formula IX R13-¢P(OR14)2!u (IX) of the formula X (X) or of the formula XI (XI) if appropriate in addition to other additives, shows an improved stability to chemical degradation. The organophosphorus compounds used according to the invention maintain the melt viscosity of the molding composition at the highest level (very small deviation from the starting value). They furthermore lead to the best initial colors of test specimens and to a relatively low change in color after kneading experiments.

The block copolymer acts as phase mediator and contains in different blocks different proportions of the monomer units used.

Abstract: Low-viscosity copolymers useful in coating compositions, containing hydroxyl and carboxyl groups are obtained by free-radical polymerization of A) from 3 to 50% by weight of one or more glycidyl esters of aliphatic saturated monocarboxylic acids having a tertiary or quaternary a carbon atom, and B) from 97 to 50% by weight of at least two olefinically unsaturated copolymerizable monomers of which at least one contains at least one COOH group and at least one is sterically hindered, the quantity of COOH groups in component B exceeding the quantity of epoxy groups in component A to such an extent that the resulting copolymer has an acid number of at least 15 mg of KOH/g.

Abstract: Prepn. of low mol. wt. functional polymers comprises: (1) preparing a first quantity of a mixt. (M1) from at least one component chosen from olefinic unsatd. monomers (B) and cpds. (A) which do not copolymerise with (B) but can react to form a copolymerisable addn. reaction cpd.; (2) starting polymerisation by the addn. of initiators and opt. regulators; and (3) adding an additional quantity (M2) of the (A)/(B) mixt. during polymerisation, the compsn. of (M2) being the same as or different to (M1), with the provision that an oligomer or polymer (C) is dissolved in at least one of (M1) or (M2), and at least one of (M1) or (M2) contains a component (B). Also claimed are: (i) copolymers prepd. by the process, and (ii) binders for lacquers which contain these copolymers, as well as cross-linking agents chosen from isocyanates, melamine resins or epoxy cpds.
