Abstract: Comunicaciones de acceso múltiple por división de códigos (Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA)), conocidas también como comunicaciones de banda ancha. Una unidad de abonado para un sistema de comunicación de banda ancha, de múltiple acceso, que recibe y procesa una senal en multiplex por división de código (CDM) que modula una senal portadora en un canal de radiofrecuencia (RF) para reconstruir una senal de información transmitida asignada a un abonado, que comprende: elementos de recepción para recibir la senal portadora modulada del canal de RF y para desmodular la senal CDM de la senal portadora, un controlador de la unidad del abonado; elementos procesadores de módem que comprenden: a) elementos de adquisición de código piloto global que comprenden un elemento de generación de código piloto global para proveer una senal de código piloto global; numerosos elementos de correlación de fase retardada de código piloto global para correlacionar la senal de código piloto global con la senal CDM para producir una senal de código piloto global desexpandida, habiéndose cambiado la fase de código de la senal piloto global que responde a una senal de adquisición; y elementos para determinar si la senal piloto global desexpandida está presente para producir una senal de adquisición; b) numerosos generadores de código de mensaje que producen numerosas senales de código de mensajes sincronizadas con la senal de código piloto global; y c) elementos de seguimiento de código piloto global para producir una senal de error que responde a la senal de adquisición; d) elementos para ajustar la senal de código piloto global en fase, que responde a la senal de error en un sentido para producir la senal de adquisición que corresponde a un nivel aumentado de la senal piloto global desexpandida; y e) numerosos elementos de adquisición de senales de mensaje para proveer numerosas senales de mensaje de recepción desexpandida, incluyendo cada elemento de adquisición numerosos correlacionadores de senales de mensaje, correlacionando cada correlacionador de senales de mensaje una de las respectivas senales de código de mensaje con la senal CDM para producir una senal de mensaje de recepción desexpandida respectiva.

Abstract: In a TDD wireless communication system between transmitters and associated receivers, automatic gain control of a receiver is only applied during the corresponding time slot within the TDD signal time frame architecture. Successive received signal strengths are measured and gain levels are stored as estimates for an initial gain level in future time slots of the TDD signa l. Estimating techniques, such as averaging or trending of received signal strength over successive time slots, and averaging or trending of gain level settings, provide improved estimation of future initial gain levels.

The system comprises a first station (501) and a second station (502), the initial transmit power level of which is maintained, wherein the first station generates an automatic power control signal by comparing a measured noise power level in a communication channel and an estimated system transmit power level and the second station occasionally transmits a spread spectrum signal whilst in an inactive state and receives the automatic power control signal to adjust an initial transmit power level thereof.
