PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of treatment for obtaining a film or a sheet containing a cycloolefin copolymer which has a high heat resistance and transparency, an excellent chemical resistance, dimensional stability and tensile property and a film or sheet obtained by the method and suitable for use in optical parts. SOLUTION: The film or the sheet which has a high heat resistance and transparency, an excellent chemical resistance, dimensional stability and tensile property is obtained by bringing the film or the sheet containing a cycloolefin copolymer having a hydrolyzable silyl group into contact with a water-containing liquid composition at 100-250°C. The film or sheet obtained by the method is suitable for use in optical parts. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a film or sheet which is prepared from a composition having excellent optical properties and heat resistance and containing a cycloolefin addition polymer prepared by using a norbornene monomer as the main material, is prepared by solution casting, has a decreased remaining solvent content without being thermally degraded, and is useful for an optical material. SOLUTION: The composition containing a specific cycloolefin addition polymer is dissolved at 25°C in a solvent (1) capable of dissolving the polymer; then, the resultant solution is subjected to solution casting and brought into contact with a solvent (2) which does not dissolve the polymer but homogeneously mixes with solvent (1) and has a boiling point of 150°C or lower under the atmospheric pressure, thus giving the objective cycloolefin addition polymer film or sheet.
