    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyether polycarbonate useful as e.g., an adhesive having selective adhesive properties and capable of being dissolved in water, an alcohol, or the like, and to provide an adhesive composition containing the same.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyethylene wax having reactivity with the surface of inorganic matter and improved compatibility with organic matter by reacting a polymer obtained by polymerizing ethylene in the presence of an alkyllithium with a silane compound. SOLUTION: Ethylene and 0.3-25 mol, per mol of ethylene, of an alkyllithium, and 0.1-100 mol, based on the alkyllithium, tertiary amine are added to a hydrocarbon solvent and reacted at a temperature of 0-150 deg.C under a pressure of 0.0098-7.8 MPa to obtain an ethylene polymer. This polymer is reacted with a silane compound of formula I at 0-150 deg.C for 1-24 hr to obtain a polyethylene wax of formula II. It ts also possible that the polyethylene wax is reacted with a vinyl-terminated tertiary amine of formula III to obtain a polyethylene wax of formula IV. In the formulae, R1 and R2 are each a 1-10C monovalent hydrocarbon group; R3 is a 1-6C alkyl; (n) is 4-300 on the average; X is a leaving group; R4 is a 1-30C divalent hydrocarbon group; and R5 and R6 are each a 1-10C monovalent hydrocarbon group.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain functional microcapsules simply by encapsulating an optional oily substance with an optional membrane material by a method in which oil drops containing an oily substance to be encapsulated, a vinyl monomer and a polymeric plasticizer are dispersed in water and polymerized, the polymer is deposited around the drops, and the plasticizer is removed. SOLUTION: An oily substance which can be converted into microcapsules does not hinder radical polymerization in general, for example, has solubility in water at 25 deg.C of 1 wt.% or below, and is soluble in a monomer composition forming a membrane material to be capsules at a polymerization temperature. A vinyl monomer is active to radical polymerization, and its polymer is insoluble in an encapsulating material and water of a dispersing medium. A plasticizer plasticizes the polymer and lowers its glass transition temperature and can be removed by some method. Hydrophilic organic compounds or 1-5C alcohols are used preferably as the plasticizer.
