    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a disk substrate excellent in corrosion, weather and shock resistance by using a glassy carbon composite material with fine selective ruggedness formed on the surface. CONSTITUTION:A glassy carbon composite material with fine selective ruggedness formed on the surface is used. The roughness of the ruggedness is regulated to about 10-100Angstrom . The composite material has such high strength that cracking and chipping are hardly occurred when it is subjected to working of inner and outer circumferences and chamfering at the time of working a substrate and the objective disk substrate having high rigidity and satisfactory surface smoothness is obtd. This substrate is nonmagnetic and has satisfactory corrosion and weather resistance and high shock resistance.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent a flexible magnetic disk from colliding with slide contact parts by forming an X-shaped projecting part to include a core part near a crossing point on the slide contact face of the slide contact parts. CONSTITUTION:On the slide contact face of the slide contact parts integrated with a magnetic head, the X-shaped projecting part (composed of a crossing point 3B, leg part 3C in an upstream direction and leg part 3D in a downstream direction) exists while including a core part 3A of the magnetic head near the crossing point and groove parts 3E-3G exist between these projecting parts. Accordingly, when a flexible magnetic disk 1 is rotated at high speed, the phenomenon of positive and negative pressure in an air current, which is generated respectively in the projecting parts 3B, 3C and 3D and groove part 3E between the abutted faces of a magnetic head 3, can be utilized in a well-balanced condition. Thus, the flexible magnetic disk is stably traveled and a satisfactory recording and reproducing characteristic can be acquired. Then, respective slide and contact faces are prevented from being damaged and durability can be improved.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To control an air current to be generated between abutted faces and to prevent collision by respectively forming a second projecting part on the upstream side of a first projecting part and a V-shaped third projecting part to be continued to the first projecting part. CONSTITUTION:For slide and contact parts, a first projecting part 3B is formed with a core part 3A positioning in an almost central part, a second projecting part 3C is formed to be positioned in an upstream direction to the rotating direction of a disk to this first projecting part and to be extended in the radial direction of the disk and a V-shaped third projecting part 3D is formed to be continued to the first projecting part and to gradually extend width toward the rotating direction on the downstream side of the rotating direction. Such the slide and contact parts are integrated with a magnetic head 3 on the abutted face of the magnetic head 3 to a flexible magnetic disk 1. Accordingly, since the first projecting part 3B and the third projecting part 3D are continued, the phenomenon of positive and negative pressure in the air current to be generated in the projecting parts and a groove part 3E between the abotted faces of the magnetic head 3 can be utilized in a well-balanced condition when the flexible magnetic disk 1 is rotated at high speed. Thus, the flexible magnetic disk is stably traveled, respective slide and contact faces are prevented from being damaged and durability can be improved.

    Abstract: A substrate for magnetic discs, which are to be used as external storage in data processors, is formed from glass-like carbon materials by themselves or contained in a thermosetting resin matrix. The glass-like carbon materials have excellent thermal resistance, can be finished to a mirror-like surface, and have less surface defects than aluminum substrates. Magnetic materials can be adhered directly onto the surface of such substrates shaped in the form of a disc. The resulting disc has good hardness, is resistant to elevated temperatures, is less likely to deform, and is low in cost.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the durability of a flexible recording medium, to prevent damaging of a magnetic head coming into sliding contact with the recording medium and others and to obtain stable output by executing sputtering by using a target essentially consisting of glassy carbon, thereby forming a carbon film on the surface of a substrate. CONSTITUTION:The glassy carbon 1 cut out to a disk shape having a prescribed thickness is mounted by metal bonding to a target supporting disk 2 made of copper and is disposed to a cathode 3 of a sputtering device to constitute the target. A perpendicular flexible disk 5 consisting of CoCr is mounted as the substrate to be formed with the film on a counter electrode 4. This disk 5 is gently rotated from the outside and after the inside of the device is evacuated to a vacuum of a prescribed pressure, gaseous argon is introduced under 4-7X10 Torr pressure into the device and the water cooled sputtering is executed to form the carbon film 5 uniformly on the substrate. The durability of the flexible recording medium is improved and the damaging of the magnetic head coming into sliding contact with the flexible recording medium and other peripheral members is prevented.

CONSTITUTION:Vitrified carbon to be used is obtained by hardening and burning thermosetting resin, and polyacrylonitrile-series, rayon-series, phenol-series or furan-series resin is used. it is desirable to use non-porous vitrified carbon which can be obtained by using thermosetting resin capable of containing water more than 20wt% in the state of an initial condensation product as raw material. The material is subjected to cutting work to make a ball retainer A for a rolling bearing. The ball retainer A is little rubbed with a steal ball, kept from wear, light-weight, excellent in heat-resistance and does not require application of a lubricant.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide an ornamental material which is imparted with the massive feel different form the massive feel of the conventional products on the surface while the properties such as surface gloss and material feel intrinsic to a base material are effectively utilized in appearance by forming >=2 kinds of thin carbon film layers having different film thicknesses on the base material and forming designs by the difference in the film thickness. CONSTITUTION:A compact case 1 as, for example, a cosmetic case, is constituted of a body 1 and a top cap 3. The cap 3 is constituted by forming the thin carbon film layers having a high amorphous property, adhesive strength and film strength on the surface of the base material 4. Said layers 5 are formed at the varied film thicknesses on the material 4. A difference in the color tones, massive feel, etc., is generated by the difference in said film thicknesses. The design of a character A shape, the design of a character B shape and the design of the overlapped part thereof are thereby formed. More specifically, the part (a) where the film thickness is large forms the design of the overlapped part, the part (b) where the film thickness is middle forms the design of the characteristic A shape and the part (c) where the film thickness is small forms the design of the characteristic B, respectively. The film thickness of at least one thin carbon film layer of >=2 kinds of the thin carbon film layers having the different film thicknesses is 100-2,000Angstrom .

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To form a carbon film which has excellent durability and has the lower frictional resistance with other members with which said film contacts slidingly by using glassy carbon as a carbon source and executing sputtering. CONSTITUTION:The glassy carbon used as the carbon source is sputtered on the sliding contact surface of parts to form the substantially amorphous carbon film thereon. The calcined matter or the like of a cured resin material consisting essentially of a mixture composed of phenol, furfuryl alcohol and formalin and has the fewer surface pores is suitable for the glassy carbon. The sputtering is preferably executed in the atmosphere lower than the gaseous pressure under which DC flow discharge of a cold cathode can be maintained. The carbon film is thus formed on the surface of the sliding contact parts such as hard disk of a magnetic storage device without spoiling the magnetic layer and the characteristics thereof by the above-mentioned method.

The composition of the thermosetting resin is composed of 70-100pts.wt. of one or more kinds of compounds selected among a monomer mixture consisting of phenol and/or furfuryl alcohol and formalin in 30:55-75:30 molar ratio, phenol resin, furan resin and a condensation product of phenol modified furan, 0-15pts.wt. of one or more kinds of compounds selected among lignin, modified rosin and modified cellulose, and 0-15pts.wt. of one or more kinds of compounds selected among a monomer mixture consisting of urea and/or melamine and formalin in 30:55-70:30 molar ratio, urea resin and melamine resin.
