Abstract: Techniques for converting short messages between different formats (e.g., from GSM SMS to CDMA SMS) such that pertinent control information is retained without changing the fundamental structure of these message formats. A new value is defined for the Msg Encoding field in the User Data subparameter of the CDMA SMS message to indicate that the content of this message is an encapsulated GSM SMS message. The Message Type field in the User Data subparameter may be used to carry data coding scheme information for the encapsulated GSM SMS message. At a recipient mobile station, the value in the Msg Encoding field is checked to determine whether or not the CDMA SMS message includes an encapsulated GSM SMS message. If the answer is yes, then the user data in the CHARi fields of the CDMA SMS message is processed based on the data coding scheme information from the Message Type field.

Abstract: Systems, methodologies, and devices are described that facilitate filtering content sent to a mobile device(s) by a content provider via a core network. A content provider can determine a content rating for content, and/or the core network and/or mobile device can determine or infer a content rating for unrated content from a content provider, based in part on predefined content rating criteria. A mobile device user can specify a desired content rating preference for the mobile device. A filter(s) respectively associated with the core network and/or mobile device can filter the content based in part on the content rating of the content and the content rating preference of the mobile device to which the content is being sent. Content that does not meet a content rating threshold can be filtered out and stored in a secure content folder accessible using a security code or discarded.

Abstract: Techniques to send GSM CBS messages over a CDMA air interface. The encapsulation of a GSM CBS message in CDMA messages may be achieved using various schemes. An indication is provided at each of a number of pertinent layers to allow the terminals to determine whether a GSM CBS message or a CDMA broadcast SMS message was sent. Abstract: Techniques for conveying reports for SMS messages in wireless communication networks that utilize CDMA air interface (e.g., GSM1x and CDMA networks). Two new messages SMS Deliver Report Message and SMS Submit Report Message are defined for CDMA SMS. These report messages may be used to more fully convey the information in the SMS-Deliver-Report TPDU and SMS-Submit-Report TPDU defined in GSM SMS. A new Report_Req field is also provided in the Reply Option subparameter of the SMS Deliver Message and SMS Submit Message defined in CDMA SMS. This new field may be used to request a report for an SMS message to be sent by the message's recipient. Each report message may include (1) a first value indicative of whether the SMS message was received correctly or in error, (2) a second value indicative of a type of error, if any, encountered for the SMS message, and (3) user data.

Abstract: A method of filtering broadcast messages at a receiver in a wireless communication network, comprising: receiving a network broadcast configuration message including a broadcast message capability setting; when the broadcast message capability setting is set to disallow receipt of broadcast messages, remaining in a sleep mode when a broadcast message is sent; when the broadcast message capability setting is set to allow receipt of broadcast messages, receiving a broadcast message; applying one or more filtering criteria to the received broadcast message; processing the received broadcast message if it is not filtered out by the one or more filtering criteria as well as a corresponding apparatus.
