    Abstract: Method for making a film that comprises microfibrillated cellulose, wherein the film has low OTR values and especially suitable for a tropical environment. The method comprising the steps of providing a suspension comprising microfibrillated cellulose (MFC), forming a film from said suspension, wherein the film having a solid content above40%, preferably above50%,treating the film with flame or plasma treatment, such that a surface activation takes place on the film, and cooling the film, wherein the surface of the film having a decreased OTR value and a high moisture resistance.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a polymer-coated packaging material, a method of manufacturing the same, and products, such as a disposable drinking cup, made from the material. The packaging material comprises a fibrous base (1) of paper or board, an innermost polymer layer (2) containing a blend of (i) 10 to 25 wt-% of a low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and (ii) 75to 90wt-% of a second polyethylene with a higher melt viscosity, said second polyethylene be- ing selected from linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE), and an outer layer (3) of more than 90 wt-% of HDPE. An outermost layer (4) of a polymer blend similar to that used for the innermost layer (2)may be provided for heat-sealing. The layers (2, 3 and 4) may be brought and adhered to the fibrous base (1) by coextrusion. To maximize re- newability of the materials HDPE and LLDPE as used for the structure are of biologic origin.

    Abstract: The invention concerns a heat-sealable biodegradable packaging material, which comprises a fibrous substrate (1) and one or more polymer coating layers (2) extruded onto said substrate. According to the invention the packaging material includes at least one polymer coating layer (2) containing at least 70 weight-% of polylactide (PLA) and at least 5 weight-% of polybutylene succinate (PBS) or its derivate blended therewith. Optionally an acryl copolymer such as ethylene butyl acrylate glycidyl methacrylate terpolymer (EBAGMA) may be included in the polymer blend. The invention further concerns a heat-sealed container, such as a disposable drinking cup, and a heat-sealed product package made from the packaging material, as well as uses of PBS or its derivates as blends with PLA in extrusion coating, for improving adhesivity of the coating to the fibrous substrate and reduced raw edge penetration to the packaging material, especially penetration of hot coffee held in the drinking cup.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to paper or paperboard comprising cellulose fibers, said paper or paperboard comprising at least one coating layer formed by extrusion coating of a PP (polypropylene) resin, characterized in that the PP resin comprises at least 50 % by weight of a branched PP copolymer having a density in the range of 890-910 kg/m3 (as determined according to ISO 1183), a melting temperature in the range of 155-170 °C (as determined according to ISO 11357-3), and a melt flow rate (230 °C / 2.16 kg) in the range of 10-15 g/10 min (as determined according to ISO 1133), and wherein the PP resin is applied to the paper or paperboard at a grammage of less than 30 g/m2.
