    Abstract: PURPOSE:To easily regulate coated thickness by providing a metering roll to regulate thickness of coating liquid applied on a sheetlike material and providing an air nozzle by which air is blown to the rear of the sheetlike material or sucked from the rear. CONSTITUTION:Coating liquid 15 is applied on the surface of a sheetlike material 1 at prescribed thickness or more by a fountain 3. Further thickness of coating liquid coated by the fountain 3 is regulated by a metering roll 4 provided in the width direction of the material 1 so that it is brought into contact with the surface of the material 1. Air is blown to the rear of the material 1 or the rear of the material 1 is sucked by an air nozzle 5 arranged nearly parallel to the roll 4 in the vicinity of the roll 4. As a result, coated thickness can be regulated easily and finely during running of the sheetlike material.

And scraper plates 15, 18 to scrape the coating liquids which have attached to the metering bar 13 situated between the sheet-like material 9 and the backup rollers on the inlet side of the sheet-like material 9 are provided at such a position that the clearance between the forward end surface of the scraper plates and the outer periphery of the metering bar is in the range of 0.03-3mm. As a result, scattering of excessive coating liquids due to centrifugal forces can be avoided.
