    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain flameproof fiber having high mechanical characteristics with hardly any bonding between mutual single fibers in excellent productivity by flameproofing or infusibilizing a precursor of the flameproof fiber under ordinary or reduced pressure in the initial period and then flameproofing or infusibilizing the resultant fiber under pressure in the latter period. CONSTITUTION:A precursor of flameproof fiber (preferably having in the initial flameproofing) and then flameproofed or infusibilized under pressure in the latter period to afford the objective fiber.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent surface defects resulting from bonding between single filaments at an early stage of carbonization and to obtain reinforcing carbon fiber having a few inner voids, high strength and high modules of elasticity by subjecting acrylic yarn to flameproofing treatment and carbonizing the fiber at specific temperature under reduced pressure while drawing. CONSTITUTION:Acrylic fiber is heated in an oxidizing atmosphere to carry out flameproofing treatment and then carbonized at 300-1,000 deg.C preferably 300-550 deg.C under =3%, preferably >=10% to give the aimed fiber.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To raise productivity and to obtain the title fibers in high yield by providing a base material as a cathode with electric charge in an aqueous solution containing metallic ion, supplying the base material with a metallic catalyst and thermally decomposing a hydrocarbon gas by using the base material. CONSTITUTION:A base material such as graphite board or carbon fiber as a cathode is provided with electric charge in an aqueous solution containing ion of metal such as iron or nickel and the base material is supplied with a metallic catalyst. Then the base material is used and a hydrocarbon gas such as methane, benzene or ethane is thermally decomposed by using a hydrogen gas as a carrier gas at 700-1,500 deg.C to give the aimed fibers.

SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a polyacrylonitrile fiber comprises subjecting a polyacrylonitrile-based copolymer to wet spinning or dry-wet spinning, washing the resultant fiber with water, subsequently applying a phenolic resin on the fiber, and further making the treated fiber compact by drying.
