SOLUTION: The packings for treating water contain Na-type zeolite or a zeolitelike substance featured by the exchange capacity of CaO ions at 25 deg.C being at least 120 mg as CaO to 1 g of zeolite or a zeolitelike substance. The zeolite or the zeolitelike substance is a crystalline inorganic oxide which had a molecule-sized pore diameter. Although the composition of the zeolite is not 6 limited in particular, it is preferable to have a large ion exchange capacity. For that purpose, a crystalline metasilicate in which the metal portion is of a divalent metal is preferable in terms of an ion exchange capacity. As a kind of zeolite to be used preferably, X, Y, P-type zeolite and others are named.

SOLUTION: An adsorbent for purifying water contains zeolite of high silica and/or pure silica material featured by the atomic ratio of silicon and tetravalent metal in the skeleton to the other metals being at least 25. The zeolite is a crystalline inorganic oxide which is rich in silica components and had molecule-sized pores. Although zeolite means a crystalline aluminosilicate and a crystalline metasilicate in general, here, high silica means the atomic ratio of silicon and a tetravalent metal to the other metals being at least 25. As a tetravalent metal, titanium, germanium, and others are named. An adsorbent chemical agent for purifying water, whose form is not limited in particular, is produced generally in a granular shape.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the production of trioxane from an formaldehyde aqueous solution by using a solid acid catalyst with inhibition of the corrosion of the reactor and the formation of formaldehyde polymer. SOLUTION: Trioxane is produced by bringing an aqueous solution of formaldehyde into contact with a solid acid catalyst, for example, a cationic ion exchange resin bearing sulfonic acid groups. In the production of trioxane by repeatedly bringing the aqueous solution into contact with the solid acid catalyst, it is important to lower the acidic free substance in the formaldehyde aqueous solution less than 10,000ppm, preferably 1,000ppm. For example, a part of the aqueous formaldehyde solution containing acidic free substance is taken out of the reaction system and another formaldehyde aqueous solution of a lower content of the free substance is introduced to control the concentration of the acidic free substance. Trioxane is useful as a feedstock for polyoxymethylene copolymer, an engineering plastic.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide an inexpensive far infrared ray emitting material, excellent in far infrared ray emissivity and suitable for uses in drying, treating, heating, cooking, etc., by addition thereof to coatings, etc., by composing the material from metastable alumina as a principal ingredient. CONSTITUTION:A far infrared ray emitting material is produced by using metastable alumina as a principal ingredient. Furthermore, the metastable alumina is an intermediate in producing alpha-alumina and can be produced by heating hydrated alumina at about 200-1100 deg.C temperature. The metastable alumina includes seven kinds of kappa-, theta-, delta-, gamma-, eta-, chi- and rho-aluminas and all thereof exhibit a high far infrared ray emissivity. Among them, the delta-, gamma- and eta-aluminas showing a broad peak in an X-ray diffraction pattern are preferably used.

CONSTITUTION:An aqueous suspension containing zirconium hydroxide is maintained in a heated state at >=80 deg.C until degree of crystallization of formed zirconia reaches >=80% to give an aqueous suspension containing crystallized zirconium. Stable sol can be produced by obtaining the zirconia having >=80% degree of crystallization. Then a nitrogen-containing organic basic compound or an alkaline (earth) metallic hydroxide is added to the prepared aqueous suspension containing crystallized zirconia. An aqueous suspension containing zirconium hydroxide and impurities may be used, an aqueous suspension containing crystallized zirconia is obtained similarly to the above-mentioned method, the suspension is washed, the ions of the impurities are removed and then the basic substance may be added.
