Abstract: Disclosed is a process for forming secure images which comprises electrostatically charging an imaging member; imagewise exposing the charged member, thereby forming a latent image on the member; developing the latent image with a liquid developer comprising a liquid medium, a charge control additive, and toner particles comprising a colorant and a polymeric material; allowing the developed image to dry on the imaging member; contacting the portion of the imaging member with the dry developed image with a substantially transparent sheet having an adhesive material on the surface thereof in contact with the imaging member, thereby transferring the developed image from the imaging member to the substantially transparent sheet; contacting the adhesive surface of the substantially transparent sheet with the developed image with a paper sheet having a polymeric coating on the surface that is in contact with the substantially transparent sheet; and applying heat and pressure to the substantially transparent sheet and the paper sheet at a temperature and pressure sufficient to affix the image permanently to the paper. The resulting document is a paper sheet covered with the transparent sheet, with the developer material that forms the image being situated between the paper sheet and the transparent sheet. The disclosed process is generally useful for applications such as passport photographs, identification badges, banknote paper, and the like.

A process for variable data lithographic printing includes applying a dampening fluid to an imaging member surface; forming a latent image by evaporating the dampening fluid from selective locations on the imaging member surface to form hydrophobic non-image areas and hydrophilic image areas; developing the latent image by applying an ink composition comprising an ink component to the hydrophilic image areas, the ink composition comprising a high viscosity thickening agent to raise the viscosity of the composition from about 1.05 to about 2 times higher while maintaining excellent transfer to a substrate at low temperatures.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for producing variable pearlescent image elements or portions on image receiving media substrates using a variable digital data offset lithographic architecture which provides for varying lithographic images between cycles of a marking device. Pearlescent inks are provided with a solid particle pearlescent pigment components in a proportion of at least 10% by weight suspended in solution in an ink composition. Pearlescent inks are provided with a solid particle pearlescent pigment components having particle sizes in excess of ten microns suspended in solution in the ink composition. The disclosed systems and methods provide for variable pearlescent image elements or portions to be formed on an image receiving medium substrate separate from, or in combination with, other ink image elements or portions applied using other inks in a single device, and/or in a single pass of the image receiving media substrates through an image forming system.
