Abstract:
An ink composition useful for digital offset printing applications includes a colorant and a high viscosity thickening agent. The ink is formulated to incorporate polyester viscosity modifier to help meet the requirement of two different viscosity or temperature pairs at two different stages of the process. In digital offset printing a bulk ink is first transferred onto an anilox roll, and then from the anilox roll onto the imaging cylinder blanket. During the bulk ink to anilox roll the disclosed ink has a low viscosity while the transfer from roll to imaging blanket the ink has a higher viscosity. The addition of the polyester viscosity modifier increases the viscosity difference within the allowable temperature range, thus, increasing process latitude and robustness.
Abstract:
An ink composition for use in digital offset printing including a white colorant, a translucent colorant, or a combination thereof; wherein the white colorant, translucent colorant, or combination thereof is present in an amount of at least 50 percent by weight based on the total weight of the ink composition; at least one component selected from the group consisting of a curable monomer and a curable oligomer; at least one phase change agent; an optional dispersant; an optional photoinitiator. A process of digital offset printing including applying the ink composition onto a re-imageable imaging member surface at an ink take up temperature, the re-imageable imaging member having dampening fluid disposed thereon; forming an ink image; transferring the ink image from the re-imageable surface of the imaging member to a printable substrate at an ink transfer temperature.

Abstract:
An ink for a printer may include one or more latexes in an amount from about 0.1 wt% to about 15 wt%, one or more amines in an amount from about 0 wt% to about 2 wt%, and one or more pigments in an amount from about 0.5 wt% to about 8 wt%. The ink may also include four or more solvents that, in the aggregate, are present in an amount from about 10 wt% to about 50 wt%. The ink may further include one or more surfactants in an amount from about 0.001 wt% to about 3 wt%.
Abstract:
Provided is a coating composition for an image transfer member in an aqueous ink imaging system. The coating composition can include at least one hydrophilic polymer, at least one of hygroscopic plasticizer, at least one surfactant, and water.
Abstract:
A system and method are provided for producing variable pearlescent image elements or portions on image receiving media substrates using a variable digital data offset lithographic architecture which provides for varying lithographic images between cycles of a marking device. Pearlescent inks are provided with a solid particle pearlescent pigment components in a proportion of at least 10% by weight suspended in solution in an ink composition. Pearlescent inks are provided with a solid particle pearlescent pigment components having particle sizes in excess of ten microns suspended in solution in the ink composition. The disclosed systems and methods provide for variable pearlescent image elements or portions to be formed on an image receiving medium substrate separate from, or in combination with, other ink image elements or portions applied using other inks in a single device, and/or in a single pass of the image receiving media substrates through an image forming system.
Abstract:
An ink including at least one first reactive component, at least one second component comprising a triggerable component, at least one third reactive component, and an optional colorant; wherein the at least one first reactive component and the at least one third reactive component are capable of reacting with one another to form a solid ink on a substrate; wherein the at least one first reactive component is encapsulated in a microcapsule; wherein the ink can be jetted onto a substrate and treated whereby the treatment causes the at least one triggerable component to trigger the rupture of the microcapsule thereby releasing the at least one first reactive component from the microcapsule so that the at least one first reactive component and the at least one third reactive component come into contact, react, and polymerize thereby curing the ink.
