    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent film forming molecular groups from joining together while making it feasible to form uniform molecular film or monomolecular laminated films by a method wherein forming molecular groups spread on a liquid surface are oscillated. CONSTITUTION:Liquid 9' spreading a molecular film thereon is contained in a square water vessel 1. A monomolecular film spread on the liquid surface 9 maintains the solid film status pertinent to the film forming process provided with specified surface tension by a float 3. A flat substrate is attachably and detachably fixed to a carrier supporting jig 15 provided on a carrier lifting arm 11 with a lifting mechanism so that the carrier lifting arm 11 may shift almost perpendicularly traversing the spread liquid surface 9 of monomolecular film. A carrier 10 can shift the monomolecular film spread on the liquid surface 9 to itself by means of transfer to form the monomolecular film or monomolecular laminated films with desired lamination. Through these procedures, even and non-defective monomolecular film or monomolecular laminated films free of defect may be formed improving dynamic characteristics, conductivity and breakdown voltage etc.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve a yield of continuous cumulation of molecules for film forming, by providing with liquid-flow generating means in the liquid bath for expanding the film forming molecules, and by controlling a surface density of the film forming molecules by changing the liquid-flow when a desired monomolecular cumulated film is formed. CONSTITUTION:On forming a thin film bearing optical functions which a logical device, a memory device and a photoelectric converting device, etc. have, the thin film consisting of organic molecules is formed with a monomolecular cumulation method. Water from a water flow generating means 7 is flowed into a water bath 3, the water surface is dammed by a barrier 8 being placed on the water bath 3 so as to overflow the excess water, and organic solution is dripped onto the water surface being dammed to form a film. That is to say, the solution of 0.1ml in which stearic acid is being melted in a solvent of chloroform at a rate of 1X10 M/l is dripped onto the water surface. The width of the water bath 3 at the surface pressure producing area 11 including the dripping area 9 is made narrow, for example 2cm, and the width of the cumulating area 10 is made wide, for example 20cm, to allow flow rates of these areas to change into about 2cm/sec from 20cm/sec. In this way, the cumulation yield can be improved to 50-100%.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable the improvement in the rate of cumulation by reducting the rotation of molecules at the tine of removing monomolecular films from the liquid surface by a method wherein a carrier to be formed into films is rotated and moved up and down on the liquid surface where a monomolecular film is being developed. CONSTITUTION:The circular cylinder 3 is rotated by rotating a gear 5 by transmission of motor rotation to a motor shaft 7, and thus by driving a chain 9 stretched between a gear 4 fixed to a cylinder rotary shaft 6. The cylinder 3 is moved up and down by varying the length of a music wire 10 fixed between the rotary shaft 6 and the motor shaft 7 by means of a music-wire wind-up 11. After a monomolecular film is developed over the liquid surface by dripping a desired group of molecules for film formation down on the liquid 2, the cylinder 3 is rotated with this cylinder 3 kept at a desired level above the liquid surface, when a monomolecular film or a monomolecular cumulative film of desired cumulative frequency is formed on the cylinder 3.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To cumulate easily and continuously a monomolecular film and to improve a pH condition, by controlling surface pressure of the monomolecular film so as to attain a desired surface density, and by providing with a pH controller in a liquid-circulating system. CONSTITUTION:A water-circulating closed circuit is constituted by a water circulating path 12, a reservoir 13, pumps 14, 15 and a water bath 3. With a barrier 8 contacted onto the water bath 3, solution of 0.1ml in which stearic acid is being melted in chloroform being a solvent at a rate of 1X10 M/l, is flowed in at the upstream dripping area 9 at a rate of 20cm/sec. Next, a monomolecular film 2 is cumulated on the cumulating area 10 near the barrier 8. An output of a pH sensor 21 which is being immersed in the water bath immediately before the area 9 is converter into an analogue signal by employing a vacuum-tube voltmeter 22. The analogue signal is delivered into a micro-computer 17 which contains a micro-processor 18 and a memory 19 and an interface circuit 20, via an A/D converter 23. The output of the micro-computer 17 then can operate a cylinder 26a containing sodium hydroxide 25a and a cylinder 26b containing hydrochloric acid 26b to control pH of the water.

    Abstract: A process for producing a Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) film, comprising the steps of: developing a monomolecular film of a film forming molecule on the surface of water and transferring the monomolecular film on a substrate, wherein a film forming solution containing the film forming molecule is dropped on the surface of water while allowing a water stream directed to the substrate to act on the surface of water or allowing an air stream directed to the substrate to act on a position in the vicinity of the surface of water; a condensed film of the film forming molecule is rapidly formed upon dropping of the film forming solution by taking advantage of the action of the water stream or air stream; and, after or simultaneously with the formation of the condensed film, the condensed film is transferred onto the substrate. This process can prevent the inclusion of impurities, enabling an LB film to be produced using a small apparatus without using any large developing trough. Further, a hybrid LB film can be formed by changing the film forming molecule dropped on the surface of water in the course of the formation of the LB film.
