A method of making an element (104, 105) for a wind turbine blade root end connection, the method comprising placing into a mould (250): a bushing (40) and a plurality of elongate fibrous battens (150) around the bushing (40), wherein one or more of the elongate fibrous battens (150) comprises a translucent portion; the method further comprising forming the element (104, 105) in said mould (250) using a resin infusion process including curing, wherein the formed element comprises a transition layer (102) located between the bushing (40) and the elongate fibrous battens (150); extracting said element (104, 105) from said mould (250); and inspecting said element (104, 105) for blemishes (190) by passing light through the translucent portion of the one or more fibrous battens (150).

    Abstract: The present invention provides a method of repairing a bearing bore defined by an inner surface of a bearing housing, for instance a bearing housing that is part of a wind turbine. The method includes applying a liquid resin to at least part of the inner surface of the bearing housing. The method includes mounting a bore insert in the bearing bore, where the bore insert includes an arcuate portion having an edge positioned along a line of required radius of the bearing bore, so that the liquid resin fills a gap between the inner surface of the bearing housing and the edge of the arcuate portion of the bore insert. The method includes removing the bore insert from the bearing bore after the liquid resin has solidified to repair the bearing bore to the required radius. Advantageously, the invention provides a relatively simple and inexpensive method for repairing a bearing bore that has suffered wear, that may be performed on-site and which obviates the need for potentially expensive component replacement of the bearing housing.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a wind turbine comprising a lightning protection system for providing an electrical conduction path suitable for conducting lightning from the rotor to electrical ground. The lightning protection system comprises a shroud which is electrically coupled to a wind turbine bearing housing and a wind turbine hub and/or the front end of the main shaft. The shroud forms part of the electrical conduction path so to electrically couple a wind turbine rotor to the bearing housing via a short circuit path that bypasses the bearing arrangement.

    Abstract: A method for controlling a power output of a power generating unit (18, 21) is disclosed. An accumulated power output of the power generating unit (18, 21) during a predefined time interval is forecasted. An actual power output of the power generating unit (18, 21) is measured during the predefined time interval, and an actual accumulated power output is estimated for the predefined time interval on the basis of the measured actual power output of the power generating unit (18, 21). A difference between the forecasted accumulated power output and the estimated actual accumulated power output is derived. The power output of the power generating unit (18, 21) is boosted, in the case that the estimated actual accumulated power output is below the forecasted accumulated power output, and the difference between the forecasted accumulated power output and the estimated actual accumulated power output is larger than a predefined threshold value.

    Abstract: A method for estimating components of a grid impedance, Z, of a power grid (1) being coupled to a power generating unit at a point of interconnection (4) is disclosed. A voltage, V meas , across the point of interconnection (4); an active current, I P , and/or an active power, P, delivered by the power generating unit to the power grid (1); and a reactive current, I Q , and/or a reactive power, Q, delivered by the power generating unit to the power grid (1) are determined. Finally, the grid impedance, Z, and/or a resistance, R, of the grid impedance, Z, and/or a reactance, X, of the grid impedance, Z, is derived from the system DC gain vector.
