Abstract:
The present invention relates to an absorbent wound care device comprising two or more materials which individually do not gel when exposed to a fluid but do gel when brought together and exposed to a fluid. The device is particularly intended for haemostatic use and for absorbing bodily fluids being emitted from wounds and physiological target sites.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are methods for the prevention and treatment of a variety of mammalian conditions manifested by loss of bone mass, including osteoporosis. The present invention provides methods of using PTHrP, or analogs thereof, for the treatment of metabolic bone disorders that are both effective and have an increased safety.
Abstract:
To examine a diamond (3), the diamond (3) is irradiated with a broad, substantially monochromatic, slightly non-parallel X-ray beam (2), the diamond (3) is rotated on a spindle about an axis normal to the axis of the irradiating beam (2), and an annular detector (7) coaxial with the irradiating beam (2) is used to detect the number and/or spindle angular position of diffracted rays (9) emanating from the diamond (3) around a 180 DEG arc coaxial with the irradiating beam (2). From the number of diffracted rays (9), one detects whether there is lattice misorientation and/or from the positions of the diffracted rays (9), one determines the orientation of the crystal lattice relative to the axis of rotation.
Abstract:
An LED (Light Emitting Device) light source (100), a pulse controller or pulse control module (130) for an LED light source, and a method are provided, for controlling relative timing and phase of LED light pulse generation and operation of peripheral devices, relative to a common timing reference. A system is provided comprising a pulse controller (130) for controlling synchronization of multiple LEDs (144) and/or other devices and peripherals (164), relative to a common timing reference. The pulse controller (130) comprises a processor (131) that programmatically executes a time based sequence of digital control signals (141) from received inputs (121) indicative of a pulse generation sequence. The pulse controller provides for multiple pulse trains where improved control of relative timing of several events is required, such as for control of multiple high intensity LED light sources and synchronized control of peripheral devices such as detectors, for applications, such as, fluorescence microscopy and other spectroscopic applications.
Abstract:
The present application relates to calcium channel inhibitors containing compounds of formula (I) wherein Ar 1 , n, R 1 , X and Y are as defined in the specification. The present application also relates to compositions comprising such compounds, and methods of treating conditions and disorders using such compounds and compositions.

The present application also relates to compositions comprising such compounds, and methods of treating conditions and disorders using such compounds and compositions.
Abstract:
A medical device for delivery of a therapeutic agent to a physiological target site, said device comprising a flexible receptacle containing said therapeutic agent, wherein at least a part of the receptacle is formed of a water-soluble or water-dispersible material. The therapeutic agent may comprise a haemostatic agent and the physiological target site may comprise a wound.
Abstract:
A method for synthesising a given peptide or its derivative which contains a proline residue or a proline derivative, at proximity to, or at, the C-terminal end of said peptide is provided. The method comprises a) synthesising on a first resin a Cterminal portion of said peptide, o r its derivative, comprising at least three successive amino acid residues or their derivatives, by successive coupling of selected amino acids, small peptides or their derivatives, b) cleaving the C-terminal portion from said first resin; c) reattaching said C-terminal portion to a second resin which is generally suitable for the synthesis of peptides but is unsuitable for the formation of peptides having a proline residue positioned atthe C-terminal end of said peptide; and d)coupling selected amino acids, small peptides or derivatives to the C-terminal portion.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to the use of mutants of parathyroid hormone-related protein, to treat disorders associated with smooth muscle cells, and to inhibit the cellular activation and proliferation thereof. The method can be employed in diverse tissues to effect therapeutic and prophylactic relief for disorders and diseases manifested by activation of smooth muscle that can lead to excessive smooth muscle proliferation. For example, where employed in the vasculature, the inventive method can be used to treat restenosis following angioplasty.
